    Hi All,

I have a 2002 BMW 318i and the odd time when i'm driving along (could be a 20mph or 80mph) the battery light comes on and the power just drops, just for a second and then resumes.

Its really weird. Have any of you come across this before? Any ideas on how to fix the problem?

    Thanks,

    S.

Check your battery. Put a meter on your alternator. Check the belt also.

I presume he means the Auxiliary belt, if this is slipping you would normally hear a screech....

It sounds like you either have a loose connection on your alternator, or the alternator is on its way out.

It would be worth checking out the connections & wires going to the alternator, both the main power cables and the regulator feed wires. If there's no issues there it sounds like the alternator might be about to give in, so would be worth replacing with a re-conditioned one.

Great, thank you. I'll have my mechanic have a look at the alternator next week.

Any idea how much an alternator would set me back?

    Thanks again for the replys.
