How Do I Report My Boss For Tax Evasion?

I've been reading up and down Revenues site all day and I can't find anything.

Is there a whistle blowers hot line or what?
I can't seem to find one.

Has anybody else ever done anything like this in the past?

Take a trip to your local Revenue Public office and they will go through it with you. You could ask questions for 'info' and after that decide if you still wish to persue it. Its up to you.

Send a letter to the audit compliance area of wherever your boss is based.

    i did this,

just go to your local tax office and let them know they will investigate it, or send it to the sherrifs office for the tax office, if he is evading them he should get letters after about 8 months.

Post reported my friend. Whatever your opinion of the OP, there is no need to post it here.

The OP is perfectly entitled to report his boss. Why should they get away with not paying tax?

i'm sick of the attitude that robbing from tthe state is acceptable.

I think it is the duty of a good citizen to report anyone abusing the system.

You're probably wasting your time OP-these kind of snitchy phonecalls and letters are generally disregarded by the civil servants at the Revenue who see them as extra work. Even if he does get audited it could be very difficult for them to prove anything and if does get caught and charged the tax, fines and interest you could well find yourself out of a job if it damages the business.

The way the country has been run by the entire government and state establishment has undermined the premise that you have some moral obligation to pay tax. I would go as far as saying that if your boss has dependents and employees and paying a bit less tax is the difference between coping and going broke that he is doing the right thing.

It's not difficult for the Revenue to prove if someone is paying their taxes. And, if someone self employed is earning enough to pay tax, then they should be paying it. There are plenty of people with dependants who are struggling but they have to pay their taxes, as it is a PAYE system. Just because self-employed people are taxed under the self assessment system, does not mean they are entitled to not pay their tax.

In another thread you said you were involved in a 5 year court battle with your boss (and were unlikely to get a job ref from him). You also said your boss was a taxi driver who had an extra job. You also said you were applying for entry into An Garda. And you also said you failed a subject in the Leaving cert. And you also said you wanted to know if you could collect rent allowance without informing your landlord.
The people at Revenue would need to know details like these before wasting public resources on revenge.;)

I looked at his history too and some of your facts are wrong, OP said he knows someone who moonlights as taxt driver, not that its his boss. His history is not as damning as you put it to be, to be fair, but is a bit all over the place.

OP, why do you want to screw your boss? Out of interest, not judging you. Is it being a good citizen or personal?

no but this might be a catch 22 position I mean how much do you value your job if you tell and are unsuccessful will this come back to haunt you.
you must be full sure good luck with what ever you do;)

****ting on your own doorstep a bit no? I'd love if this made your boss bankrupt and you out of a job

I Personally think that you are an ungratefull little Shi*e.... You should be glad that this person is providing you with a job... not running off on your Holier than Thou crusades... 3 Quick questions for you O.P.

    1. Have you ever done a "nixer" coutside of your normal working hours?

    2. If yes, I'd be willing to wager that you didn't declare this on your income tax return at the year end? Did you?

    3. That El Friendo is also Tax Evasion....

However you should note that this is just my own opinion....

Just to quote the bible, 'judge not lest ye be judged yourself'.

But I don't think any of this is of your concern.

You can be sure every phonecall, letter, public visit etc in relation to queries like this is documented and investigated and if the employer/employee is not complying with their tax obligation, Revenue will find out or have some idea before this. :)

Hi guys....on an obliquely related point. Some pals of mine were in trouble because their accountant was not sending in their returns.....and many others too. Obviously Revenue went after them and they asked me for a little help in the communication with Revenue. I made a couple of phone calls, I did give my name but the calls were quite general and just explained the background. Anyhow, fast forward to the court case some months later and I was named in court as their representative and the facts as I had outlined them were accepted. I was totally shocked that they had taken such note of the calls I made. I didn't even realise they had taken notes and my name. In short, once something goes to Revenue you can'tbe sure where it will lead. Make sure your own house is well and truly in order.
