    Hi,
I have recently been told that my working days will be reduced from 5 to 3 days a week (9am-5.30pm)

I have been working over a year,
and they said this should be a temporary thing.
So I was wondering can I claim the part time benefit?

    Any help appreciated,
    Thanks,
    BB

    Hey OP
I'm in the same boat :(

AFAIK you can claim for the other days you arent working. If you have enough stamps / contributions you can claim Jobseekers benefit which you are entitled to. If you havent enough contributions/stamops then you can apply for jobseekers allowence which is means tested.

Loadsa information on it here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/employment-rights-and-conditions/contracts-of-employment/being-asked-to-reduce-your-hours-of-work and see where its says Social Welfare Payments or here http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/JobseekerSupports/JobseekersAllowance/Pages/ja.aspx

I think that if you work for 3 days a weekyou will be deemed to have earned 159 euro. Social welfare rate of 204 a week they will give you 45 euro a week if you claim.Thats what i reckon is happening but i am not 100% sure

OK so after months of waiting, thinking I was been back dated and waiting on a cheque, I decided to go to up to the Social Welfare Office to inquire about it and here's what they told me:

'apparently' it explains in the letter that I'm not entitled to anything because I'm 19 and that since 18-21 year olds dole are been cut in half the same applies here.

TBH I didn't see that anywhere in the letter did anyone else??

Basically that letter says that every day you work in a week, your means per day are calculated at 53 euro.
As you are working 3 days a week, that means your weekly means are 159 euro.
As the weekly rate for under 20s is 100 euro, your means are in excess of the rate and you do not qualify for payment unfortunately.
You should have received another letter with that one explaining the above.

    Thanks for that,
I didn't recieve any other letter other than the above one,
that's why I was so confused when they were saying I wasn't entitled to anything.
