Donal and Paddy, the Carmody Bros are two Brazilian Jiu-jitsu pioneers in their town Tralee, located in Co. Kerry, Ireland. Training in Brazil for four months, the brothers were caught by InTheGuard's Dennis Asche for an interview where they shared their experiences and the way they develop their BJJ with this system of traveling and learning.

    just for the record.

there is bjj in tralee since 2001 with myself and tom patton (where paddy and donal both trained at 1 time) and as for having no1 to train with on a tuesday night, there's usually about 8-10 us 6 nights a week.

I don't want to put words in the lads mouth, but I think they just picked a random day of the week, to use it as a comparison to the amount of training available at home. I am sure it wasn't meant as a slight on his home town

Guys, just to clear a few things up. As I’ve explained to a few people already this interview was for a Brazilian site who cant believe that people/gringos travel so far for jiu-jitsu. When they asked us about Ireland, we told them that there was one blackbelt and that the majority of the clubs were run by blue belts etc.
They had asked us how I got my purple belt and I had told them that I got my blue in Australia (GB-Peter) and my Purple in the UK (Braulio) and that I travel over there every 3/4 weeks. I told them that I train in Cork but travel to both Limerick and Tralee to train but train in Dublin maybe once a month etc. On top of this Gordo knows that after Brasil I am moving to the UK to train aswell. This is where the Pioneer thing came out and Donal has told me that he said ‘I wouldn’t say that’ or along those lines in reponse. The Tuesday night remark as Mark rightly said was just a random night trying to highlight that BJJ is not run every night. Basically, it didn’t really have anything to do with Tralee at all it was just simply highlighting to the Brasilians why everyone travels so far abroad to train.

I started out training in Tralee with both Tom and Francis and still travel down to Tralee for Judo on a Tuesday in Toms/Danny Judo club. I would say without doubt that this is one of the best clubs I have every trained at and have always recommended it to any one that asks me about BJJ. I sincerely apologise if I offended anyone.

This interview was taken totally out of context as it was just meant to highlight how ‘young/new’ Bjj is in Europe/Ireland etc. It was not an interview on Tralees BJJ scene and if anyone knows me they should know that this would have been the case.

As to Daves remark about the book, it doesn’t come in Corkonian English J but on that note I have notes from every club that Ive trained in with the coaches name above them as a reminder.

    Hope that cleans things up

Both of the boys trained with us down in DCU before they headed off to Brazil. Nicer pair you'll be hard pressed to find. Great to see they're enjoying it. Damn I'm jealous. :D
