Enamel gone

I just looked at my teeth properly using a light and mirror and discovered that about 70% of the enamel (hard shiny coating) is gone from my two main "rabbit teeth" I haven't been to a dentist in over ten years and this was when I was in Primary School last when such things were free. I am 22 now and my diet is probably a Dentists worst nightmare and I suffer from alot of breathing problems relating to Asthma, hayfever and anosmia (limited smell + thus taste) because of these conditions I would say my diet is dreadful and I really only enjoy either very sweet or bitter foods, I often drink 1 or 2litres of coke a day simply as this drink is about the only thing I can taste or enjoy.

Now my teeth are suffering and my upper teeth are fine bar the missing enamel my lower teeth are a mess as I had a capping done last time out aged 12 as I got my tooth chipped (bottom hit top) during a fight in school. It is kind of at an angle now and I would say my lower front teeth are very under developed. I also take steriod inhalers so these are probably not helping either.

I have an underbite wheras my entire lower teeth can cover the upper one or vice versa. I wash my teeth maybe once every so often and have no routine really :- tbh I never got into it and have far more pressing health issues than it.... until to nights discovery of the missing enamel. I will call up the Dentist tomorrow and make an appointment.... I await an earful no doubt but my dental health was always low priority and I was always frightened off also due to the astronomical ripoff by Irish dentists.

at this stage I wish I could just rip them all out and inject in a few stem cells and give mother nature a third shot at it.

Thats not as far away as you might think, maybe your children will enjoy such treatments.????

As for your problem, without seeing you I cannot comment, best to go see a dentist who at the very least will give you some preventive treatments to stop it getting any worse.

Was to my dentist today and it was fine, (my fear of Dentists gone now) I actually had plague covering my teeth so my enamel is not gone! Got a teeth x-ray and Dental checkup plus a clean and polish. However she also discovered a requirement for a filling in my wisdom tooth and I am scheduled to get that done next week. Another thing I also discovered is that it was all free as I have a Medical Card! Amazing:eek: no wonder the country is broke! I was told my teeth are "of a very high quality" despite not visiting a Dentist since 2000 and brushing my teeth less times than months in the year!

One question she told me that because I am on a Medical Card my filling will be silvery as the other fillings are not covered by it, however with it being the Wisdom tooth no-one will see it anyway. However I was reading now and if the Silver stuff is Amalgam there is noway I am leaving it near my mouth as it is full of Mercury. Any ideas re: Medical card and filling materials?

isn't it funny how a government bureaucratic decision can determine choice of dental treatment.

First glad to hear you have gotten over the dental fear and have found a good dentist.

They are NOT full of mercury! It is a component. Have a look here to begin.

    http://web.health.gov/environment/amalgam1/policies.htm

Re Medical cards and filling materials, composite (white) filling free in front 6 teeth (canine to canine), all other teeth amalgam fillings free.
If you want a composite filling behind the canines you must pay private fee or PRSI fee (if you have enough contributions)
