Just got a summons today for not paying a parking fine. Aren't they supposed to give you a warning or reminder first? It came as a shock to me since I had forgotten about it, given I don't even have that car anymore!

Aren't I supposed to get a reminder letter, not get sent straight to court!!!! That's ridiculous.

There is no requirement for any reminder letter. Where in the 1975 act does it say a reminder must be issued?

Don't all county councils issue reminder letters, and then increase the fine by 50%, then you are summoned?

No. Some do issue reminders. Others go straight to summons and charge 50% to withdraw the summons.

Was it a Garda FCPS and not a county council ticket??

I'm pretty sure it was a council ticket.

I contacted the council in question and explained that I never recieved a reminder letter or an increase of fine notice. They said I should have recieved them but for some unknown reason I didn't. They said they'd retract the summons and I can just pay the fine as normal. Sweet.

    Ah come on now...reminders!

Not only did you park illegally, get a ticket and then did not pay but now you expect a reminder!!

Havent you cost the Council enough time and money besides now wanting a reminder!!

I knew it would only be a matter of time before somebody came to give out.

I didn't park illegally, I parked at about 10pm and didn't buy a ticket. Nothing wrong with that. I didn't expect to have to leave the car where it was but I ended up having to. I came back to the car the next morning to find a ticket. I didn't park up on a main street at midday and blatantly say "ah feck that I couldn't be bothered paying!"

And yes I do expect councils to show some common decency and send out a reminder. What if it was a poor forgetful auld granny? Instant summons for my gran with no reminder? That would be stupid.
