Anyone here that's doing an exam attendant?

How are you getting on? I'm doing and it's going well so far - very little people left early but making tea/coffee for the examiners is a pain!
Price rates (not sure if it's the same in all schools but it must be)

But isn't the tea making the only thing you have to do really, in 3 hours.

I loved doing that. Getting paid to make/drink tea while playing a Nintendo DS :pac:

yeah im doing it, i walked into the hall today to bring the tea and i nearly dropped the fecking thing off the saucer :O

also i had to go into the hall with a show in my hand to give to the examiner, one of the lads kicked his shoe onto the roof by accident whilst kicking a ball at break, a got a strange look from him :)

Attendants. They're 4th or 5th year students who make coffee, bring people to toilet and stuff. They've nothing to do with the papers.

Stop picking on the midgets. :P

I did it 3 years ago just after 5th year. Easiest job in the world, and a whole bunch of my friends were doing the exams at the time. The World Cup was on so I brought a TV.

I see you are getting paid less then i was last year when i did it. I was getting 6.66 an hour :)

I really wanted to do this when I was in 5th Year, but a load of people went for it and names were picked out at random. Unfortunately, mine didn't come out. :(

It's a nice job to have. Extra money always comes in handy.

are exam attendants supposed to get paid at the end of each day or at the end of the exams?

I did it years ago, thought it would be lovely and easy (which it is). But I got septic throat during the exams and got guilt-tripped by the principal into not going on sick ("Because you committed to this job and we can't get a replacement" blah blah). So spent the two weeks doped up to the eyeballs and not even able to read because my head was melted.

    End of the exams!
Did it last year, and was great! Bought in my laptop and watched movies, and then when I got bored of that had my DS :D
Such easy money! I got something like 280 last year! And I got like 40 in tips, 20 from two different examiners!
    I want it back :(

HA! You guys had/have to make the tea/coffee? A woman from my canteen is making the tea/coffee for my examiner, in fact, all the examiners! All I've to do is escort them to the toilet, and for that I don't even need to get up because the toilet is right over from the exam hall! Great money! :D
Sitting out here right now browsing the net on my Renoir, and playing music on my iPod! :D

I was a reader/superintendent for a girl doing her JC last year. Got over 700 euro for a few hours work, it was great!

With all due respect guys, thats the worst pay I've ever seen. Really is borderline "whats the least we can give you" You'd get about €8-10 an hour if you worked anywhere else.

Because people who only have a Junior Cert can get jobs elsewhere.................

I got €400 out of the whole thing.

Pretty decent considering it involves little or no effort.

Low skills = low pay, an all sectors. Why should someone who just sits around and reads and makes the odd cup of tea/coffee get anything more than minimum wage? Education funding is stretched enough as it is, they can't afford to pay them any more.

Our supervisors all seem quite sound; the one on our section of the hall stayed sat down for most of it except for when someone went out to the bathroom etc, she'd take up their paper and have a check around. That being said, it was English Paper I of course so she'll undoubtedly be a little more vigilant when it comes to cheat-able stuff like maths D:

Speaking of which, anyone know notorious cheaters in your year that you're just dying to get caught? -.-

I did it. It was grand, easy money but my superintendant guy was an A-Hole, made me carry heavy boxes and paid me €50 less than he should have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,405 ✭✭✭RHunce

my friend licks his examiners buscuits before he gives them to him haha, all because he said one fan was not enough with the heat last week, brilliant imo :D but slightly disguisting

Oh give over.. you have a job for 3 weeks worth a few hundred to you and you sit on your arse otside exams with your fone/laptop/psp or watever...God help you for making tea...you'd think they'd given you enough work already:rolleyes:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,338 ✭✭✭✭Busi_Girl08

    I did it last year.
Great laugh, was with 2 other people from my year. Spent the whole time playing cards, reading and eating the biscuits and drinking tea :pac:

Nearly lost it the one time when one of the superintendents (old man) went into the girl's bathroom by mistake :pac:

Was with an LC super, so we got all the long hours, up to Economics, so I got about €450!!

Blew it all on clothes for Irish college...

I don't think you get how little work you do though, you litterally just carry in tea once or twice and follow people to toilet which isn't every 2 seconds, so most of the time your just sitting down reading/music/playing psp or DS:D

Show me a job that you get payed for, for doing little more then nothing;)

Forex Trading (That can be dodgy some times) but you could be looking at €700 in about 10 seconds (or loose it all in 2 :pac: )

Its a good job but rate would throw me off. My job I get paid much more that €6 an hour to walk in the great outdoors, talk to people and instruct people... Suppose it depends what one is willing to work for.

I did this a couple of years ago. Worked out a 5.90 an hour i think. I wasnt complaining though I was just happy to be getting paid to watch Scrubs and make tea and biscuits.
