Baby Finches have fledged

    Have been watching a pair of greenfinches going in and out of their nest and today I saw the fledglings being fed in the tree, so cute sorry about the little
    branch in the way but I didnt have time to go chop it off :)

    Very nice. None around my way anymore. Probably due to an infestation of magpies:mad:

    Unlikely as there is not a link between magpie predation and other bird numbers declining, most likely down to modern intensive agricultural practices in your area and or humans general unfriendliness to their natural habitat/food.

    My own personal experience of this is I have several magpie and greenfinch living in the same area.

    Thanks for looking :) I have a positive "glut" of finches in the garden this year, chaffinch, Green Finch and Gold Finch have never seen so many also have noticed that Sparrow numbers have increased. I put out loads of food mainly peanuts and fat balls though I found the Rooks and Jackdaws increase when the fat balls are out so I try to hide them where only the smaller birds can get at them.

    I spend many hours just watching the antics of the birds (beats housework anyday :D)

    I would have thought there was as they eat the young chicks and eggs. Do you have a link or something to that? Im not doubting you but there is a serious drop in songbirds around here and the only difference from the land it was years ago is a motorway 2 miles away.

    There have been loads of studies done one involving 35 years of information and they have shown magpies have little or no effect on songbird numbers.
    I'm not saying they don't eat eggs or young but so do several other animal's red squirrel,Stoat ect.... its nature.
