My brother is registering a business name.

He is waiting almost two weeks for it. He rang up enquiring and he was told that it will take up to 6 weeks.

Now anytime I have registered it has only taken 2 weeks or less. Is it the norm for it to take up to 6 weeks?!

    Hi

If you file online it takes only a few days. If you file manually it can take significantly longer. I would not have thought it would be as long as 6 weeks however.

They are probably just covering themselves and it should come through in the next week or so,

Also it only cost 20 euro as apposed to 40 if he registers electronically.

I might be wrong but I think the yearly Company Returns have to be filed by every company created around this time of year, which might cause a backlog for new company setup's and business names.
I got setup within 10 days last November and had to file the return last week.

I registered a business name recently online, Ive done it many times before and yea it usually only take 2 weeks. When I called them they said they were experiencing a backlog.

If your bro registered the business name to buy a .ie domain name you can just use the receipt they gave you to do it.

I file business names on a daily basis for clients and it is taking approx 6 weeks at the moment.

Honeymonster is right - If your bro registered the business name to buy a .ie domain name you can just use the receipt they gave you to do it.

You're a bit confused...We're talking about businesses not companies and sole trader business names don't have any filing requirements with CRO apart from registration, changes in owership or cessation.

Company annual return dates can fall at anytime in the year - first one is normally six months after incorporation followed by every twelve months after that. I don't think there's a particularly busy time of the year for them as far as I know...

Yep, there seems to have been a backlog for the last 6 months at least. I was able to register a .ie domain with just the submission number from CRO so at least the delay didn't hold up the website, but you do need your RBN to open a business bank account.

had same problem and rang and explained I could not invoice and open bank account to cash cheques and it was a new vernture etc etc was given the reg section number and spoke to a nice lady who processed it as we spoke and said would pop in post last night (she even offered that I could collect it if I wanted)......

Still some people using there heads thankfully, I have no doubt they have a backlog but at least when I explained my case they saw the logic of bumping me!!!

Sorry cant find number was given
