    So,

Carrying a bottle of water really gets up my goat and with the weather getting very hot I've been considering planting water around my route as i'm starting to get into highish mileage (high for me)

I don't really want to be leaving them just anywhere so do you have any tips for good spots to leave them?

i usually run on the north canal/phoenix park/navan rd areas

What's the longest amount of time you run for?

leaving bottles around your route would involve a lot of pre-planning, for runs longer then 10 miles (for me 90 mins) I use a hydration belt (Similar to below) that holds a standard 750ml sports bottle. I also hate holding things when running and found the belt perfect and didn't bounce or rub.

If this weather keeps up I think I will change my running time to early morning or late evening.

I was considering this but ideally i would like to have nothing with me, I changed my running to start at 7am tried it this morning and it was still far too hot :D

looks like the belt might be the best option

I've tried planting water exactly once - far too much work.
I've used a water belt - hated it with a passion.
I've tried carrying water in a hand bottle - better than the belt, but not ideal.

What I do now: I run early in the morning when the temperatures are not really an issue. Ok, not everyone fancies getting up at 6 o'clock. I drink plenty of water before I head out, and if I think I need a drink on the route I run a few loops, leaving a water bottle at the start point. That way I get water on the way without having to plant it beforehand.

There are 2 taps in the phoenix park that I know of.

One beside the polo grounds although this is not always on any more and the second at the side of the main hut at the entrance to the ordenance survey buildings.

I usually drop off water in my car before a long run in the park also, usually somewhere that I run by twice so I get double the benefit.

Yeah I wouldn't fancy using the belt. I'm not familiar with your route, but could you not leave it basically anywhere (behind a tree, or in the grass etc.)?

I use a CamelBak FlashFlo for my longer runs, you can tighten the compression straps as you go along as well top stop it all sloshing about too much as you have drunk more and it has enough space in there for other bits and pieces and some gels:

Same here, only for runs longer than 90mins, I have water and isotonic drinks in the boot. As the park is 6.7miles around (our route anyway) it means we can get drinks or gels every 45-50mins, only takes a few secs to stop and get them. Also, if you park by garda hq, and head towards Castleknock gate, about 1mile down (just by the next gate, don't know what it's called, before you get to the hole in the wall pub) there's a bin (one of the very few in the park) so you can dump empty bottles/gel wrappers if you want to practice taking them on the run.

I wear a belt like this and honestly it is no trouble at all. I also use it to put, keys, money, phone etc in, instead of the pockets, thus avoiding chafing. It leaves your pockets free for jelly babies too :D

I did my long runs for Dublin last year in the Phoenix Park. I live near there so was able to run up to the park carrying a bottle of water, and then drop it at the base of one of the lampposts at the roundabout near the Castleknock gate (the roundabout where the adidas series races start and finish). I then made sure that what ever routes or loops I was doing in the park, that I always passed by that point a number of times. On my long runs (16 - 20 milers) I was able to pass that point about 4 times. Never had any problems with the bottle going missing.

Just had to put a bit of thought into the route to make sure I passed the roundabout enough times.

I find this is the biz, you can have pre mixed gels and water.

Never used one of these but I imagine they are a lot better than the single bottle ones.

I used one of the single bottle ones when I trained for Dublin and thinking back it was a bit crap...never fit truly snugly and bounced about at the start of the run. It was fine once you got into the run and had a bit of the bottle drank though.

My longest run now is 90 minutes so I dont really need water....even when the sun is strong I dont be dehydrated when I finish.

I can top that story. I left a bottle out the night before a long run up around Boharnabreena and some little $hit emptied the water and replaced it with pee.
