I am receiving DTT from Clermont Carn. I get 98% signal strength but it is unwatchable as I an only getting between 0 and 10% quality. Is there anyway to improve the signal quality? Would adjusting the aerial slightly improve the quality?

You maybe have an overloaded booster amp. Get rid of it if so.

At even 40% siganl you can get 90% quality.

As above but also worth adjusting the aerial to give the best Quality possible, ignore the signal strength altogether.

The only amplifier I have for this is the masthead amplifier. I replaced the aerial yesterday as the cable into it was corroded and the nut to fasten it to had rusted and could not be opened. While replacing the aerial (with one of these http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi?view_product=1&id=6324 ) has improved my uk analogue tv channel reception slightly it has done nothing for my Irish DTT reception. I noticed if I watch the signal strength and quality. The signal strength also disappears to 0 and then comes back to 98 or so percent every few seconds. Could this be a problem with the masthead amplifier? The strange thing is my friend about ½ a mile away has the same aerial and masthead amp as me and I get 100% quality and signal if I plug my TV onto his aerial. I am in Skerries by the way.

    Yes.
    Rubbish amp.
Or the gain on it turned up too high.

My DTT didn't work and I put a "proception" amp and LESS gain (it's adjustable). Quality went from a stuttery 8% to 90%. Not much difference on Analogue Woodcock Hill. Amazingly the ch 68(?) Maghera is now nearly perfect TG4. Handy yesterday when TG4 went off air on Woodcock during French Open.

yes TG4 on 68 (and 66 for TV3) is Maghera.
    BTW
Last Saturday night TG4 analogue from Spur Hill was suffering severe digital glitching, with a rapid 'stuck record' type effect happening at times on sound.
All was fine on TG4 analogue from Mullaghanish.

I've got 100% signal strengt and brutal image quality. Recieving the test signal via a communal arial on the apartment roof in D11 (three rock?). It was fine up to this week, although I must admit I had not checked it for a few weeks as its just an interest thing for me.

Can't figure out if its my PC set up or the signal just not being up to scratch. The image is better on top and gets worse as you go down. Check out the attached images.

I'm using DVB viewer on my PC with an NXP TV 7231 dual DVB-T/S tuner card (came bundled with my PC).

    Any ideas?

Rubbish distribution amps with too much gain is likely problem.

Never mind signal strength. What is signal quality reading?

Make sure you are using Core AVC codec.

That looks like an MPEG4 decoding issue (hqve had similqr issues myself before). What codec are you using?

    I'm using Core AVC.

Don't have access to the roof to the arial, and don't know how I can adjust the distribution amps.

Signal quality is always between 50 and 100. Depends on its mood!!

This just gets even more weird. I recorded a few minutes from RTE just to see if it would play back the same as it appeared when watched live, and it played back perfectly!! So it must be some sort of Codec issue, yeah?

    no.
As the same codec is used to playback or watch live. Recording doesn't use a codec.

    More like a crosspoint/graph error.

May also be related to graphics card settings or driver.

Thanks for all the info. I'll have a mess around with my settings when I get home and let you know if I get it working.
