    THE JANE BRADFORDS
Stalwarts of the Belfast scene, The Jane Bradfords have trodden a journey from synth-enhanced electro-pop to mournful, backwoods indie-rock, but always with the sonorous, rich vocals of Deci Gallen to the fore. Recent shows have seen them add piano, pedal steel and violin, as they flesh out their sound and truly become Belfast’s answer to The National – melancholy songwriting with plenty of heart and soul.

    ROBOTNIK
Like kindred spirits Beck and Jape, Robotnik is a one man band who augments his scratchy acoustica with Casio beats and primitive synths. But the cute sounds would all be for nothing if it weren’t for the songwriting chops, and he’s blessed with those as well. Add to that a reputation for energetic and chaotic live shows and the fact he’s not often a visitor to these parts, and you have a must-see performance.

    8BALL
Another Dublin act that has quietly been building a name for themselves over the last number of years is 8ball. They’re all about quality songwriting and cute sound design, as their beatifully dreamy songs burst with melody and ideas. Recalling Super Furry Animals, It Hugs Back and lazy summer days, this is an alternative pop band to hold dear.

    THE MISALIGNED MEN OF AUTOMATON
Excitingly, we have very little idea of what to expect from this debut show from the Misaligned Men. Featuring guitar genius Hornby (Continuous Battle Of Order, ex- We Are Knives and Somedaysbetter) and Chris McCorry (Heliopause, ex-Cutaways and Jedi Jane), though, we are intrigued to find out. An obtuse spoken message on their Myspace page declares that, amongst other things, fear, loud noises, Game Boys, fat beats, dance moves, the game of chess, Christopher Hitchens and – ominously – notorious electronic noise band Whitehouse are all “good”. So what they come up with for their first show is anyone’s guess. Be there to find out.
