Just got a phone call from the girlfriend to say an airsoft package
arrived this morning via UPS from Rsov'

Delivery guy was looking for 89 Euro at the door.
As the package was only worth 247 Euro including Shipping
it seems a little on the expensive side, I was only expecting to be
be paying 50ish.....wonder if you get charged extra now if Customs open it.

well i had that conversation with the ups guy this mornin funny enough asked how they charge for the customs he said i dunno ask the office

so here is how i figure it
21.5% is what they charge for the government+ there is a 13.59 euro vat
also the weight of the package and then they break off a lil somethin somthin for them selfs
they do that so they make some extra for them selfs after chargin ya the first time to deliver the damn thing

your price seems about right tho from the amount you spend
but i reckon you order the same amounts worth again and you will pay a differnt ammount then

I always calculate it as being approximately 25% of the total package value, including shipping.

But with some of the courier companies, it can be a little higher with their "handling charge"

I did get a package recently though (from Rsov too I think) that didn't have the shipping cost declared on the package, so TNT "estimated it" as costing $60 for shipping (it was a gbb pistol and only cost about $20 to ship) So I rang them up and they said if you provide the invoice, they'll recalculate and refund the difference, it was a difference of 13euro instead of 19euro at the time for me, so I didn't bother even though I should have as a matter of principle.

Long story short; Don't be afraid to question the charges and ask for a full breakdown, and if you are being overcharged, ask for a refund.

Will take a look when I get home to see if there is anything in their paperwork.
Already paid over 90 USD for delivery dont fancy paying any charges I dont need to.
    (Got myself 4 new pistols)

Its funny seeing weird pricing for irish an post too.
Recently I got a Eotech from the guys in Cork, that did not work.
They posted in its box in a jiffy bag. Cork to limerick.

I needed to post it back to them to get a replacement so used the same jiffy
bag to send it from Limerick to Cork.

They sent out the replacement in its box without the jiffy bag from Cork to Limerick.

3 different prices each time for the same object, same weight, same dimensions.

tell use about it, can post the same item with the same person 2 time and get different postage prices.... go figure

UPS are the worst when it comes to charges, had it out with them before, they charged me €30 on a packedt marked $40, ran them up and was advised that they have a flat rate of €13.50 or €15 cant remember for a packet valued up to €500.
This is their own handling charge on top of customs fee's.
She tried to tell me then that this was what all courriers charged, i told her bollix cos id had stuff through TNT only 2 days prior marked €100 odd and their fee was €3.24 on top of customs.

    I believe the breakdown is:
    VAT @ 21% +
    Customs handling fee @ 3% +
Courriers Handling fee for it goin to customs.

Youre better off using UNCO for bigger items cos they'll let you pick your carrier & item value.

Was the price on the box in US dollars? (about $350)
Customs will look at it all and charge as if it was euro! I got one from RSOV for $100US
around 70euro (inc shipping) and was charged 32euro from customs, it should have been about 18euro.

Im sure they are breaking EU law, (by not converting the currency) and there is nothing we can do about it!

    The Rip off Republic.

same thing happened when i brough in my very first AEG, they charged me on the HK$ as if it was USD$, came to over €50 on a fun that cost me €120 landed, i appealed giving them all invoices, emails ect & nearly 3 years later i have yet to hear back after numerous follow up calls.

at the end of the day like most governt bodies they do as they like without repercussion.

Last package I ordered. VAT: 15.60 UPS Handling Charge: 15.20

Like comon, FFS. I am making sure I never ever order something via UPS from outside the EU again. TNT +1.

On that, wanna get a letter drafted up explaining our wish not to have items shipped via UPS anymore, get as many signees as we can and send it off to the big Asian/US names?

Total order 247 Euros including shipping for todays
arrivals. (UPS decided they would show the value of 256.5 though)

I have a decription of charges on the UPS paperwork.
    VAT 60.36
    Duty 12.6
    Other Charges 13.50

I know its only a few Euro but to be nit picking
if the vat is 21.5% should only have been 53.10 Euros
so all of a sudden out of noplace an extra 7.26

Dunno how they can justify other charges since Customs
did not stop or inspect the package.

Eddy Hobbs would have a field day with them.

according to ups women i spoke to today say's that because there is no confirmed delivery price on the invoice from the sender e.g ehobby
they guess the vat according to the weight of the item along with the handling charge and customs charge

same here, they dont even look to see what currency is listed. dhl tried to charge me 480 euro on a spring and shim kit that cost about 20 quid as the cost on the package was listed in yen.app 3500 yen.
They still wanted the money even when i went up to the depot in person to explain with the receipts, i was told they couldnt do anything about it because they dont have a yen symbol on their keyboards.
told them no way, so they then wanted 15 quid handling charge to send it back.
    complete muppets.

WoW! thats an extreme case, I would have loved to
have seen the Look on peoples faces if you had showed them a spring and shims and asked them there and then how the heck could it amount to 480 Euros.

A lot of red embarressed faces me thinks.

This is why I always ask seller to put value in Euro on the invoice instead of dollars or whatever and I advice you to do the same. Also, always ask for tracking number and pay few extra euro to insure the package (this is rather common sense).

Like kdouglas said: is around 25% of the value of the package.

One more thing: never use UPS, their handling charges are deadly (paid 60E for a package of value 267) TNT and anpost works best most of the time.

On that, I wish I could make a thread+poll about this, but unfortunately, that'd be way OT :|
