I don't hear a lot about people buying sterling at it's current low price & waiting for it to improve - seems like a good idea to me , am I missing something or are people avoiding investing in sterling?

Thats because sterling may fall again as Alistar Darling is looking into printing more sterling to reduce the credit crunch in uk. If more currency issued into market, that currency wil devalue. Just my opinion!

Why does it seem like a good idea? Why do you think this is a 'low price'?

The dollar fell in 2003 and hasnt recovered yet . . . .

(I agree with you by the way - just wondering if you have a reason for your belief)

Based on past fx rates this is a low price. I reckon it'll recover because of the fact of what it is: The Sterling pound.

I believe the STG is fundamentally strong.

The sterling is only as strong as the UK economy. The UK is even behind Ireland in trying to tackle the recession. Sterling is no longer one of the main traded currencies. Most trades are now in dollars and euros. If trades not being made in sterling, there is also less demand foer the currency!

Ok I get this, but I reckon taking on a hold on the currency will reap benefits in the future.

I agree that the value of a currency is indicative of how well a country is doing economically. But not always the case.

Currency trading IMHO is the riskiest investment, very hard to predict what is going to happen.
