I am building timber frame, raft is just in I just have to sign contract on the actual spec of frame. My current spec is 220mm stud filled with cellulose, inside that is 50mm insulated service cavity and lined with fermacell on inside wall. Some recent advice I got was to narrow the stud to 140mm (will give me back a little bit floor area) and instead of the 80mm cellulose attach airflex to the inside of the stud between cellulose and service cavity. Apparently this can also be taped to provide airtightness. Does anybody have any experience with airflex and would this work? I was also thinking of putting airflex in slopes of roof, this seems to be where it is normally used.

    See http://www.buildersmerchantsjournal.net/products/product.asp?id=17

These multilayerd products have had a chequered past as can be seen from the links.

They dont work well ( or even at all) on their own but in conjunction with other insulation layers they can be certified for use

    read the BBA cert
