NCT pre test - Finglas area

    Hi

I have my NCT coming up in a few weeks (03 Golf TDI). Seeing as I'm due a service in 500 miles I might as well get a pre NCT test

I have been told that Advance pitstop will guarantee you pass or will do any re-test work for free. However I got a service there a while back and it was expensive compared to what other people tell me they pay. They also wouldn't put my front bumper back on as they 'don't do body work'!!

Can anyone recommend somewhere, anywhere in the northside area would be OK. I work in Booterstown so could also drop it in on the way to work some day on the southside

    Thanks

Why would you waste money on a Pre-test?
Would you not just put it through the test, see if it passes. IF it fails, THEN fix whatever it fails on.

    That's some good advice there.

just put it through the test and see if work needs to be done.
an NCT pre test is not a service, so you will still need to service the car properly in 500 miles time.

I done a basic car maintenance course and the fella doing the course told us that all they do in a NCT Pre Test is check all your levels, nake sure everything under the bonnet is nice and tight, check the tyre wear, check the break pads, lights and make sure the balancing is ok. Everything except the balancing and lights are dead easy to do yourself. He might of said they do one or two more things but its all dead basic stuff

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

€50 for a comprehensive safety test (NCT) is good value for money too...

download the manual and do a quick look at the car for the simple stuff you can do

stuff like rust you want to sort out
    bulbs
chips in windscreen, if in the wiper area
    tyres

    check fluids

do a quick check of the head lights against a wall, make sure they aren't totally screwy

if the car is driving normally then do the NCT first
if having problems then get them sorted first

Just to reiterate what the others are saying, outlets offering pre-NCT checks can find several faults with the car which may or may not pass the NCT. However, they have no way of knowing whether the car will pass the test, only the test can do this.
Pre NCT checks on offer from many places appear to be poor value for money!

i am in sitting mine right now. Well my car is. All i did was checked the lights and got them aligned for 20 euro. I wasted a fortune getting it pre tested before and it failed anyway so it definitely is not worth the money. Hopefully it will pass

I didn't actually know this, thought they'd service it as well

    Thanks everyone for the replies

Garage charged €22 to check the lamda sensor

    vs.

    A full NCT re-test is €28
