Anyone know how I could download or record programs from the RTÉ iPlayer service? I would like to put a few programs together to look at later on seeing as they are only up for up to three weeks, some for even less.

    Thanks :)

Its a streaming service, so theres not really a legitimate way to do it.

Warning to any future posters in this thread - the rules regarding not discussing hacking systems apply to RTÉ Player as they do to a cable network.

It uses encrypted rtmpe to stream. There is a way but it was withdrawn as Adobe threatened to sue

Don't know the practicabilities of a longer programme but I used screen recording software to get a 3 minute item off a US website that my normal software couldn't capture .

Haven't tried it with RTE though since it's easier to just record the broadcast signal :D

    Get a PVR for DTT.

Could you translate? I don't speak Acronym.

It's a nice box with some whirry bits in it that records telly from your rabbits ears, pipe or bin lid thingy. Is that simple enough?

I need to go to a shop and ask for "a PVR for DTT; that's a nice box with some whirry bits in it that records telly from your rabbits ears, pipe or bin lid thingy", yes?

    VHS was
    1. a TV tuner,
    2. electronic timer, only a small number of scheduled events
    3. cassette Video Tape recorder.
    Play back quality is poor.

A "PVR" Personal Video Recorder" (bad acronym) has:
    1. Two Digital Tuners. So you can record one channel while watching another and use a TV to view that doesn't receive the Digital Service.
    2. An almost unlimited scheduler for recording, often entire series automatically and on-screen program guide for a week to pick programs to record.
    3. A computer type Hard Disk for the recordings.
Since the signal is digital, it's recorded as it is, so playback is live quality.
You need a version with built in DVD or BluRay (BD) recorder also otherwise the built in computer disk gets full and you have to delete recordings.

For Sky you can only use a Sky supplied PVR (Sky+ or Sky HD).
For UPC you can only use a UPC supplied PVR.

For FTA Satellite a Freesat HD PVR is recommended.
There are also Terrestrial Digital (DTT) and Combo Satellite/Terrestrial PVRs.

Models that just record Analogue signals are not true PVRs, but can be used on SCART outlet of regular UPC or Sky Box.

Can I quote you on that? It's delicious. :)

Okay, enough is enough. You can't record off RTÉ Player. Or 4OD. Or (if you can access it) BBC iPlayer. Not legally.
