I checked the IKC for an akita club but there doesn't seem to be one.

However I did find this in thread on boards already
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/archive/index.php/t-69838.html

It has contact info for japanese akita club so you could ring them and ask id they know of any breeders in your area Japanese Akita—056-31995

Also found this website they are based in Antrim so if you don't mind the trip!
    http://www.bosundanceakitas.com/

Also correct me if I'm wrong but japanese/american/akita inu all the same thing?

***never mind I looked it up. American akita is slightly larger the Japanese Akita is the same as akita inu**** http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Akita

Just took a quick look for you and your talking about 1K
The breeders in Antrim have pups ready to go ---> link on donedeal http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/dogs/899774

1000 euro seems to be the norm for akita breed if you want a puppy.

I have an american akita and they are not the same as an akita inu. I won't go into a history lesson here but essentially, the american akita is a bigger, stockier, more powerful looking dog than the akita inu. In show circles, some colours aren't allowed for akita inu's but all colours are acceptable in "american" akita's.

American Akitas are now known as Akitas only by the kennel club and Japenese akitas are known as Japanese Akita Inus. They even list them as Large and medium breeds respectively:
    http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/5

Now that that's cleared up I can get back on topic :p

There are a number of places to buy an akita puppy, it just seems very quiet on the breeding front at the minute. Bosundance akita's have some fabulous dogs but they are akita's and not akita inus and tbh, are very expensive because of the show lines involved.

I would imagine you'd pay in the region now of at least €600 elsewhere for an akita inu that wasn't bred from a crufts winner but it's up to you, will you show it? I got my lad in Longford, I can PM you the breeders details if you like? I'm not sure if he has any litters though.

If you dont want a puppy, or specifically an akita inu, please see this "Looking for a home notice" posted up by "The Scary Man" here; A 20 month old akita looking for a home

And now for the preachy bit......I don't know you or your dog history super ninja so don't take offence to my next remark..... Research your ar*e off before you go and buy an akita. They are the most amazing dogs I've ever owned and will bring you years of loyalty and companionship BUT.... they are big, need good amounts of excercise, are very, VERY stubborn and need constant training, stimulation and leadership. If your weak, theyll walk all over you and they get bored very easy so obedience classes will probably not work, they need more than simple fetch games and sit commands. They can develop behavioural issues if not raised properly which can lead to aggression issues. Recall training is also a tough nut with them because they're so aloof and they have a very defined prey instinct so will chase and may kill small animals including cats. Please just read up on them first because so many are destroyed every year because their owners didn't know what they are getting themselves in for. Proper care and training and you won't have to worry about any of that but I had to say it :o
Oh, they're also on the restricted breed list so have to muzzled in public and never off leash. Stupid law.

I apologise for the long post and for going off topic but hopefully it was some help to you and best of luck in finding your akita. :)

 That's 1000 sterling from bosundance! Not euro!

Thank you for your post adser53. Just wondering if this part relates to all akita inu even pup or is it only adults ? :)

Glad to help ninja. Literally speaking, the law applies to the breed regardless of age but realistically i imagine if it was ever enforced upon you it'd only be after the dog is 6 months old and has started to get big. A little tip for you, i dont use a muzzle, i use a halti or similar dog head collar as it appears to be a muzzle and does meet the laws requirements. Unfortunatly, youll probably never be able to let him off leash in public or populated areas though. Thats why i bring my lad up the mountains at the weekend cos theres nowhere quiet in portlaoise to let him off for a run. If u want more info on the law, i can post up some links for you later to browse through. Btw, it also applies to all strains, crossbreeds etc of akitas. I hope i havnt put you off an akita because they are absolutely amazing dogs, i just meant to ensure you research them first cos itll be better and much easier for you, and the dog, in the long run. Sorry again for the long posts :)

Ive got myself an american akita 1 month ago so he's only 3 months old now and can vouch for what adser53 has said in please research them before you purchase, they are the best of dogs but so stubborn.
Even at 3 months old my pup is so big and growing so quickly, he s very head strong and at times seems not to even bother listening to me when i am trying to call him in - very smart dogs.

Good news all round. The new Akita Club for Ireland which will cater for both American Akita and Akita Inu had its formation meeting two weeks ago. Paperwork is with the IKC for ratification. There is a new kennels for the Akita Inu here in the south with the arrival of kyokujitsu akitas from France. They are in Co Roscommon. Website is www.kyokujitsu.co.uk. For details of the club you can contact me.
