D&D conviction?

Today I almost got a conviction for silly drunken behaviour and luckily escaped getting convicted. I'm just wondering what exactly I escaped? The guard told me it would affect travelling to countries etc but surely a charge of drunk and disorderly wouldn't be serious enough on your record to disqualify you from certain things?

    Anyone know anything about this?

Any criminal conviction will show up on your record and that goes for minor offences under the Public Order Acts and similar. Some driving offences don't lead to travel repurcussions afaik. That's about it, though. That's why it's a good idea to get representation for what you might think is a silly little hiccup by you. The courts know it takes bad behaviour for the Gardaí to prosecute a charge like this.

My experience has been that rowdy drunken behaviour, albeit unpleasant, won't result in an arrest. It's only behaviour that amounts to or could amount to actual trouble that will bring the Gardaí in. Of course, there are *some* Gardaí who have a hair-trigger response to offences, even minor ones, but by and large they're lenient enough.
