Nearly made an impulse purcahse and bought this for €89.99 in Tescos, I stayed my hand as I seen it in Debenehms for €85.99 but on further investigation bought one here for €69.99.

So here I sit, sipping a freshly brewed Latte...nice entry level machine.

I recommend this 100%. It makes an excellent cuppa joe for a cheap machine. Have one a few years and the pressure's only dropped off a smidge.

    Interesting OP!

Do you need a coffee bean grinder for this too?

    If so, any recommendations?

Btw - Soupy Norman is an excellent show!! Have you seen the Late Late Show Special!!?

No, but buying the preground is fine (or you can buy minigrinders from €20 and up). My favourites are lavazza or Illy but the great thing I find is, I can try all different types of coffee and make whichever one suits my mood.

Im certainly no expert but there are plenty over in the Coffee and Tea Forum who could guide you further.

I got one too about a year ago in Debenhams. The booklet said that you need to pre-heat the machine for about a half hour before you use it, so I got one of those timers that you plug into a socket and then plug the device in. Works a treat, great little machine for the money.

What does the pressure do to the coffee?

Half an hour wait for a coffee is not very fun :(

    SoupyNorman = good show

i've had one of these for years and the espresso is pretty good out of it its 15 bar pressure, its not in the league of a gaggia or lavazza, but then its not as expensive either.
had mine about 6 years and its still going strong
i dont pre heat for half an hour just till the red light comes on run a cup of hot water through it (to warm cups) job done in about 5 mins

i never read the manual !

Hmm.. me wants.. those of you who have one, are they easy enough to clean? I had one before, went through three of them, the mechanism kept clogging up even though I followed the cleaning instructions to a T .. I think it was a breville one, though, not delonghi. And it took instant coffee granules. How does this yolk work, do you need filters and the like?

For what it's worth I'd heartily recommend the Aerobie Aeropress - oodles of reviews and commentary here on boards and elsewhere on the web. Have one at home and one in work and they have saved me a fortune on take out coffees.

Not sure I'd buy a coffee maker from a company who, apart from the Aeropress, sell nothing but sports toys (Frisbees etc)! :D

An Aeropress will give you a much better coffee than a cheap espresso machine.

Read the reviews before jumping to conclusions maybe? See Gran Hermano's post.

I bought one from Coffee Cavern (http://coffeecavern.goodbarry.com/_product_15986/The_Amazing_Aeropress) and one in the US when I was over there as it happens. I had been looking for a cheap espresso machine but came to the same conclusion as Gran Hermano. Plus the Aeropress can be used on demand (no pre-heating etc.), is very easy to clean, is even portable (e.g. bring it on trips if necessary) and is much cheaper. Main drawback in my experience is that you use more coffee (scoop is about 1.5 times the size of a regular espresso scoop) but the pros outweigh the cons in my opinion.

While we are on DeLonghi coffee machines has anyone got an opinion on the Delonghi Magnifica EAM 32005? Seems like very good value for a twin boiler "beans to cup" machine, I'm looking to replace my ailing Gaggia Syncrony Compact digital which has taken to randomly dropping the contents of it's water reservoir all over my kitchen counter top.

At £299.99 inc. delivery here, it's looks like good value. It seems to get good reviews from random punters on the net, but I would like to get the opinion of a "real" boardsie! :D

Not much maintenance involved, just run hot water through to clean and there is only a couple of attachments.

By the way, why on earth would you put instant coffee in a machine

Ta, bought one today, can't wait to try it. The instant coffee was to make cappucinos, this thing pretty much frothed the milk and added instant coffee. I had bought it for my mother's house and she wouldn't hold with fancy 'real' coffee ;) Tasted surprisingly good when it worked, but I like my cappucinos quite mild. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Breville-CM8-Instant-Cappuccino-Maker/dp/B000HC9YDU that's the one, avoid like the plague :)
