Court Summons with wrong name

A court summons for a traffic offence arrived to my home last week. My surname is misspelled, which probably explains why I didn't receive the penalty points notice, but I'm wondering is it still valid? I'm quite annoyed that public servants with full access to my data can't get a name right - what if it was John Smith for example?

Not looking for legal advice as I'm about to contact the Garda involved to see if I can get the original points, but just wondering if there is some margin of error for names tolerated?

NO you cant get the origional points. The summons can and more then likely be amended in court.

If you didnt get the first notice......i'd see your solicitor. You might be in for some good luck.....:)

Cheers for the response. I'm strangely willing to take the points rather than the nice surprise, but it's extremely irritating that they don't have my name right.
