Where would I find a nice spot for me to go for a swim with my wife and teenage daughter? I would rather the sea, but it there is a lake or something, that would be OK too. Somewhere with a minimum of people roaring and swearing at each other would be good.

Dublin area and no car, so it would have to be public transport but we are not afraid of a bit of a walk.

Skerries! Well, I'm biased cos I'm from there, but it is really nice when the sun is out. You can get the train there. Check irishrail.ie for times.

How about the 40 foot at dun laoghaire?I've only been a few times but it seems to have a nice family atmosphere. I usually go swimming at Seapoint in Blackrock - very nice spot also and not crowded during the week

To get to the 40 foot get the dart south to Sydney Parade get off and walk towards Dalkey for bout 200 metres turn left up any of the small streets and you will see the sea walk towards the little Beach and the 40 foot is at the back of that.

It'd be a bit of a walk from Sydney Parade  Dart to Dun Laoghaire and walk from there.

How do you get to 40 foot by car? Driving down M50 direction. Is there parking nearby?

Head to Dun Laoighaire, past the ferry port, and straight around the bay towards sandycove, park here and it's just over the hill. Not really a quiet place though when the sun's out.

For Seapoint, Seapoint dart station is your best bet, then straight towards Dun Laoighaire, left at the martello tower onto brighton vale, limited parking tho.
