how do you get the apparent dip, and also the shortest line between two lines? horizontal and whatever else there is??

I thought 'boreholes' was gonna be the start of some rant.
    Damn.

ha, and also in surface geometry, the roof, to get the dihedral angle btween say A and B do ya look along the line of intersection and set up an x,y parallel or is it perpendicular???

ya look along the line at right angles! creat an auxillary elevation and put on the heights of the intersection! ok? then project another plan perpendicular with the line of intersection from tha "aux elevation". then you should have angle betwwen two planes!

    1. Create 2 laminas containing Line of intersection (LOI).
    2. Setup an X1Y1 parallel to the LOI in plan and project Aux Ele. you now have True Length of LOI.
    3. Setup X2Y2 perpendicular to this, and project 2nd Aux Plan, you now have Dihedral Angle.

how do you get the apparent dip

    Apparent DIP:-
    • In Plan setup new borehole in given direction.
    • Setup an X1Y1 parallel to this new borehole.
    • Pick two random vertical Boreholes on the new borehole and locate heights of HW and FW in dip view for these.
    • Project into new Aux View, and indicate Apparent Dip.

    • Create a Lamina in ele, made up of one of the skew line (e.g. AB), a level Line (e.g. from A)and a line parallel to the other Skew line (e.g. parallel to CD from B). this will give you a point 'O'.
    • Find the plan of this lamina using a line parallel to the same skew line (CD) in plan from the same point (e.g. B) in plan and drop 'O' form ele.
    • Look along OB (a True Length) and the resulting view will have both skew lines parallel.

    Then there are three options:-

    1. Shortest Line - Setup X2Y2 Parallel to the skew lines to find the position of the shortest distance between the two lines, and project back thru' views.
    2. Shortest Horizontal distance - Setup X2Y2 perpendicular to the X1Y1 to find the postion of the shortest Horizontal, and project back thru' views.
    3. Shortest Distance at an Angle- Setup X2Y2 perpendicular to the given angle off the X1Y1, to find the postion of the shortest distance at the angle, and project back thru' views.

Just indicate it or are you referring to any question in particular?
