    Hey guys,

Am headin off on 29th June for 2years worldwide. Just wondering if anyone can recommend decent insurance. I was on to getcover.com, the max they can quote me is 18months for €310, ace seems more expensive and policy not as good.

I bascially just want to be covered for all hopsital bills etc, and have my bag and its contents insured, anyone recommend an insurer/policy for me?

You might find it hard to find many insurers who will insure for more than 12 months at a time and many will have restrictions such as not being covered to trek over 6,000ft, etc.

Multitrip do backpacker insurance, not sure of the price but you could try them.

You can get vhi global for a minimum of 6 months afaik, and I don't believe there's an upper limit on that.

There seems to be a few different levels of cover, it's health insurance mainly methinks but you can get travel insurance built into it. Anyway, hope it's useful. :)

Edit: sorry, this definitely isn't backpacker specific insurance (I just noticed that bit.. oops!), but again I hope it might be of some use.

Accident & General have what you're looking for.

I've used them for years and never an issue. Look at their 'Explorer' product, it covers up to two years, including returning abroad to continue your trip after going home for Christmas/weddings etc.

I'm covered by it at the moment.

You ever had to claim from them?

Yeah, twice. Once years ago after needing a tetanus and stitches to a cut on my foot at a hospital in the US, think the bill was close to $1,000 for a 20 minute visit! Made one phone call and they took care of the rest.

I also went through them after my bags went AWOL for several days after flying via Heathrow to JFK.

No problems either time, although I always go for the maximum cover and add the excess waiver to the policy.
