    Hi all,

I am getting some work done under the SEI scheme and have a question.

In order to qualify for the grant for boiler replacement you need to have at least 2 zones (space and water). I understood that zoning different parts of the house for heating would require new pipework with a good bit of disturbance.

Its been suggested that a motorized valve on the cylinder will provide options for heating only, water only or both.

Can anyone tell me how these work and if they are programmable vias controls or wether its a manual process involving the valve?

    thanks

You require a minimum of 2 zones (Heating and Hot water) and minimum of 3 Thermostatic valves. If the feed to the clylinder is completely separate to the heating you will not need new pipework - just the controls.

"Its been suggested that a motorized valve on the cylinder will provide options for heating only, water only or both."

This again depends on the dedicated feed from the boiler

"Can anyone tell me how these work and if they are programmable vias controls or wether its a manual process involving the valve?"

They are a simple electro-mechanical device and are controlled by the clock/programmer/thermostat.
Your contractor/installer should have explained all this to you.

    Hope this helps!:D

So if I install a combi boiler, I automatically have control over space heating and hot water. Then if I use TRV's along with the combi, do I meet the requirements?

correct, but there are also other requirements; see the SEI website
