Pig herd number

Could anyone please tell me the correct route to take in obtaining a pig herd number?

I have kept pigs in the past and have currently got 2 pot bellied pigs, and have just got 2 large white piglets. I am planning on fattening the two piglets for meat, this would be for personal consumption, after speaking with a local butcher who is licensed to slaughter pigs, will only do this if I'm registered.

    Thanks,

Make an appointment with the department, they will forward the application to the local Vet officer.
The Vet will call you and make a time to come out and check your yard/field where you intend keeping the pigs.
If it is all good they will send out your pig number, and some other forms which relate to moving the pigs, you need to fill this form and give it to the abbatoir when you bring the pigs for slaughter.

    Simple process for now.

Thank you both for your replies.

Do you think there will be any issue with obtaining a number considering I am already keeping pigs?

Shouldn't be unless the vet is an uncooperative individual.
