What are these council elections about?

Are they happening all over Ireland? What exactly do councillors do?

Is it coincidence that they're happening on the same day as the important (European) elections, or are they linked to them?

I'm serious! How do local elections in one random country happen to be on the same day as the European elections?

It's so you can decide who's going to receive the brown envelopes for the next five years.

Simple, it's to save the cost of having two election within days of each other.

Okay, but then is it coincidence that the local elections happen to be due at the same time as the European ones?

Um, I don't get the brown paper envelope thing. :?:

The envelopes contain "incentives" for the councillors to support whatever you are wanting done.

According to AH every politician is a brown envelope scumbag.
According to reality not every politician is a brown envelope scumbag.

    Go figure.

I never assume as it makes an ass out of u and me. These elections are about Fianna Fail being removed from control of the county councils thanks to the Constitution and rules saying there must be an election every 5 years. You'd hardly expect to get off the gravy train on their own would you?
