    Hi guys,

Would appreciate opinons on this one...

I'm flying from Houston to New York and from New York to Dublin (Jetblue and Aer Lingus) in July and would like to fly home to Cork from Dublin.

We are supposed to arrive in Dublin at 9:15am and the Aer Arann flight to bring us to Cork leaves at 10:15am.

Is this too short a gap as we'd have to collect bags, check in and stuff again???

I'd like to try out the ATR's, never been on one and also the price is right and preferable to a bumpy bus ride or expensive train fare!

That's pretty tight...... the flight from NY might be 20-30 mins late. It will take you 15 mins at least to disembark.

Then you have to wait for your bags down in the ' black hole of culcutta '.

Agreed. While EI flights from the US usually land early.........all its takes is a 15 min delay and you miss you RE fight. At best-5 mins to disembark (after premier class pax)10 mins to get thru immigration and into bagage hall, 10 mins to get your bag, then 5 mins to get up to the RE check-in desks. I think their desk in baggage hall is only for luggage inquiries.

And David, you really shouldnt give Calcutta a bad name like that!

    :)

We were taught it in School , and it's in English folk lore , may not be in the Irish psyche.

( sorry for the off thread )

They've a later, albeit more expensive flight.

Ryanair will take us home for €37 (that's including 2 luggage bags each but each has to be 15kg, not the 20kg they may end up being as EI allows on transatlantic).

Ah well...bus or train it may well be then.

I thought Aer Lingus and Aer Arann codeshared on the Dublin-Cork flights for through passengers from the US? Maybe it can't be changed after booking though.

Just because you can code share doesn't mean he will make a connection in under an hour. While it means not having to pick up bags you still have to make it to the RE flight. They may not be able to check you in ex USA.

Hi Fabio - I got the aer lingus JFK -> Dublin flight on Sunday evening as it happened. Flew into Dublin on Monday at 9:15 AM, so I presume its the same flight you are talking about. Even though we all boarded in JFK early and were being "pushed back" from the gate before our departure time, the Captain warned us of possible delays up to 30 minutes leaving JFK, fairly normal by all accounts at that time of the evening... It turned out to be about 20 minutes before we were in the air.

We got good tail winds across the atlantic and we still managed to land in Dublin on time - around 9:10, but agree with other posters that the timing is too tight to take a chance on a one hour window. Did you consider flying JFK - Shannon?

    Anyway, take care.
    Muppet Man.

OP be careful about the baggage allowence differences between the transatlantic carrier and Aer Arann. I got stung BIG time before when I did the same route.

Thanks Muppet Man, Bramble and Mick IRL for ye're input there, I appreciate all of that.

Seems like it's a non starter of an idea really.

Someone asked why had I not flown into SNN - our original plan had it done as such but it would have required us to be at the airport in Houston at a very early hour of the morning whereas by flying instead to Dublin, it was the same price, and we left Houston at a more reasonable hour.

irish rail are doing pretty good online deals atm. dub - cork is €20 when you book online and the trains leave heuston every hour. just make sure you check what times the offer doesn't apply to.

    good luck anyway

As someone who work in DUB baggage hall, I can say dont even think about it, 90% chance it wont happen. EI109/108 is the most frequently cancelled EI flight anyway!
