Staying in a comfortable in a role or moving to a challenge?

Would you guys leave a good job, that you could spend the next 3-4 years in, for the reason that you are getting to comfortable?

By comfortable I mean that you pretty much know that job inside out, are not hugely challenged anymore and not motivated to learn new skills.

I am currently in a very comfortable job. I learn a small amount but I can still do the job without too much stress or any more education if needs be.

I was considering moving to another company and new position simply to keep my skills up to date and to push me to learn and advance.

I know the current climate is no time to move, but I feel that if I stay much longer in my current job I wont learn any new skills and if i was ever forced to leave, I would be at a big disadvantage to those who currently have to work harder than I currently do.

Am I just a glutton for punishment, or is this something faced regularly by skilled individuals?

I handed in my notice last month, and start work at my new place tomorrow! While more money was a nice feature, my main reason was for the new challenge and more senior role. It's very much down to personality. Recession or no recession I'm always on the lookout for something that will keep me interested.

If the right job were to come up I don't see why you shouldn't move. Obviously, in the current climate you need to be a little more careful when deciding to move but it's no reason to hold back your longer term career if you feel the need to move.
