    The Clontarf Baths and Assembly Rooms were first built in 1864 and subsequently reconstructed in 1886. Hot seawater baths were installed and the main bathing area divided into two pools, for men and women (as at Merrion). When Clontarf Baths Ltd purchased the premises in 1945, the hot baths were closed and the two pools converted into one (De Courcy 1996, 82).
