Flight reviews and information

I'm due to fly from LHR to Capetown this summer on BA, and I was wondering how to find out what kind of aircraft they'll be using on the flight?

Also, I'm told there are websites where people review long haul economy flights so that you can find out how comfortable the journey should be etc. One even mentioned a review of the food!!

Does anyone know A) Where I'll find out what kind of aircraft they'll use, and B) What review sites are any good?

    Thanks!

I don't, but as always I suggest that people who have paid big bucks to an airline are quite entitled to ring the airline and actually ask them those pertinent questions.

    It's not a secret.

    They should know-ask them:D

    That's what I'd do anyway.

    It will be a B747-400. BA59 I presume.

I managed to root around the BA site with my booking ref and you're absolutely right. It'll be my first spin on a jumbo jet. Hopefully it'll be spacious enough in cattle class. Its an overnight flight so I'll be trying to get sleep of some sort.

Here's the seating map. If I check in early enough, I'll try and grab seats on rows 51-53.

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi,

I flew BA to Jo'berg a few years ago. The space down the back is as dire as any cattle class to be honest. Expect to be cramped I am afraid .

The IFE was ' ok ' not a patch on Emirates , or Virgin, however that was in 2006 so maybe it's updated now , there were seat back TV's but not ' on demand ' movies so they started at certain times .

Food ....ok ( tbh I have forgotten what it was like so it's can;t have been either good or bad ) Virgin's food esp the breakfast is revolting ( or was last time I flew them ( 2007 ).

Best thing about it , they serve Fullers London Pride , if you like your beer :-)

Your booking will have the aircraft type listed on it.

BA website may give you service/meals/entertainment descriptions.

Try Skytrax for reviews and seatguru for best seats. As with all cyberweb reviews prepare to ignore the crazies who expected full a la carte servivce in Economy!

BA have installed a Rockwell Collins on demand or AVOD IFE system. Operating about 2 years now. All longhaul 747-400's and some of the B777's have it. Better not forget the longhaul B767's. They have it installed also and with 16 B747-400 being withdrawn from service are are making a comeback again at LHR on the longhaul scene..
