Hi, hope Im on the right forum for this.

Ok, seeing as it was such a nice day, I decided to do a bit of work on my laptop. I left it for a few mins to go inside but while inside i heard a crash and ran out to find the table had blown over by the wind.

Miraculously, the laptop survived, only a few scratches to two corners, but the usb key attached didn't. The outer casing broke away, but the connector itself remains attached to the circuit board and the two mircochips remain intact.

When I reattach it though, it doesn't appear recognised by the computer.

Is there any hope of retrieving the information on it cos it had everything on it, cv's, photos, other personal stuff.

Yes, i know im an idiot for not backing up everything when i should have.

I feel like someone who's been mugged in the street and a bit distraught too.

I'm fearing the worst here, please help someone, thank you.:(

post up a photo of it here, from what you are describing it sounds like the data may be recoverable just not by yourself and that will be expensive!:(

Hi thanks for the reply. Here are a few photos of the USB key.

You may notice that the corner of the circuit board is slightly turned in.

I've gotten over my loss at this stage, its the photos I'll miss the most, more than anything else.:o

Jaysus....keep your photos in 2 places!

That key doesn't look that badly damaged to me. If you're in or around Dublin city centre during the day time I'd have a look at it for you.

Can you get some clearer pictures maybe?
