Painting question / advice

I'm getting back into painting after many many years and I have Brettonian battalion I'm assembling at the moment (jeez, I don't remember plastic models coming in so many bits about 10 years ago!). Anyway the infantry mens' shields are awfully big and cover a large portion of the body if the model, so I think I'll have to paint the body first and then the shield and then attach them afterwards. My question is if I prime everything with spray paint before the joints where the shields are going to be glued will be painted over, and I've heard that gluing onto paint as opposed to bare plastic is bad thing to do. How do other peeps manage?

Hi, i don't really experience much trouble there to be honest, if a bit of the paint lifts you'd be hard pressed to see it seeing as the shields will obscure most of the area in question in the first place. Paint both figure & shield seperately then glue it & if necessary touch it up with a brush & watered down paint. Gives me no problems, you can also find endless amounts of tips & guides on various online forums & even youtube. Hope this is of use to you. Happy painting.:D

If your using super glue it may be an issue as the glue will hold together the paint rather then attaching to the plastic. If your using plastic glue then it shouldn't be a problem as it will get through the paint and weld the plastic together. I've never had a problem with plastic glue and already primed/painted peices.

Cool, thanks for that guys. Yeah, using plastic glue so shouldn't have a problem.

What you could do, just after painting, use a hobby knife to scrap paint carefully away from the plastic and then glue.

I've glued painted components before but i must say my Eldar Guardian heads do love to pop off from time to time. You'd be well off to file/scrape/sand gluing points for a proper seal.
