Two of us are heading to the Sally Gap and back. Meeting at 10 at the Spar in Ranelagh. Will be passing Dundrum at 10:10 or 10:15. There won't be any heroics. If you wanna come along PM me your number, just in case arrangements change.

    All welcome.

Bit late for me, need to get back early to do kids stuff. Might meet/pass (don't mean overtake !) you on my way back from somewhere down that way.

I too might be in. I will text tiny, who in turn will text ken, who in turn will kick a dog in the direction of pete with a note attached confirming my attendance.

Hope the bank holiday weather keeps up!

This man seems very important to have all these people interested in his daily priorities.... right back to sleep for me. CAlled out for work. I hate it when people go on holiday and I have to cover.

Just back. Missed the lads so did my house to Kippure and back again. Passed Ken coming down from the sally gap. Hope you guys had a good spin.

Scott: Just had a shower, watching the tennis about to tuck into a tuna fish sandwich. I'm torn between reading my book, "The last oil shock", or continuing my FM game where I am starting my 4th season at Juventus. I will text you more updates later ;)

Utter gridlock. Major stand off at the cottage between cars going up and cars coming down.At least 15-20 cars would have to reverse either way just to clear things. I just weaved my merry little way through the lot of them grinning like a Cheshire cat.:D Spoilt my descent though.

133K door to door for me today. Mini report to follow on WW200 thread.

    Jesus tax man,

that look sdisturbing in an orwellian kinda way. Why do people do the traffic jam shuffle on bank holidays? Musta been a bitch trying to cycle ?

I did 60k last night between Athenry, Ballymacward and Monivea (lots of bog roads) and must have seen a total of 20 cars.

In fairness that was the only spot of bother I saw. Laragh was empty compared to it's usual madness. I must of just missed it all.

Went out for a bit today and the tarmac was melting on the roads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,604 ✭✭✭petethedrummer

Yeah I stopped on a patch of melted tarmac, had stones attached to the tyre for a while.

Saw the famous Shimano sandals on Saturday, what a brilliant idea, especially in this feet swelling weather:D

Left home at 6.30 for a nice 50 km spin up Kilakee via Edmonstown and Cruagh.
Cycling thru the park and the out to Rathfarnham the smell of BBQ permeated the Dublin evening air. I just remembered that I was starving.

On the way home coming down Cruagh by Cruagh Wood, I had to stop and dismount due to a farmer driving 50 or so cows up the road to the viewing point.

Then I realised that I was really really hungry.
    Gorgeous night for it.

Lovely Solo spin today, left Dundrum at 8.15, Laragh was quiet at 10.30, Wicklow Gap, Blessington, Sally Gap, Lough Bray, about 1.30, only a few cars (still spoiled the descent though), lunch in Glencree with the family, Killakee, Johnny Foxes and back down that crappy lane that Emty made me cycle up on Saturday. Much nicer going down than up ! 126k, feeling pretty OK after. 22.5k avarage. I think I was going the wrong way - met hundreds of bikes going the opposite way practising for WW, but none going my way. Still dithering between 100 and 200 next week !

Go 200 -- Its actually less than that but that doesn't matter. If you can do 120 solo the wicklow 200 will be no problem. Go and enjoy the day -- it will mean more to you than doing something you can already do. My 2c

Cheers Scott, you're probably right. Only reason I haven't decided is I'm doing a Cork -Dublin Charity ride on the following Fri/Sat with work. Wondering if I wreck myself on the 200 will I be able for 100 miles Cork to Durrow the next Friday. Faairly happy with the way the legs held up today so I'll probably go for it.

Taxman great pics but....mmmmmm shift work. Off tomorrow and that road will be deserted-except for me!

I did this route today: Templeogue, Blessington, Wicklow Gap, Laragh, Brittas Bay, Grey Stones, Bray, Dun Laoghraigh (caught the second half of the movie they were showing on a big screen in the People's Park - t'was a great rest), Templeogue which was just under 160km. The whole area around Brittas Bay was madness. Cars backed up for half a mile or so and nothing was moving. Laragh seemed fine, plenty of cycle traffic passing through.

I had two very close calls with cars passing really close, or going to pass on a bend, seeing another car coming the other way and valuing their momentum more than my life and (rather than slowing down and dropping back) pulling in on top of me. It was very frustrating but seems part and parcel of a long cycle. It didn't spoil the day though, it was great to be able to take advantage of such good weather.

    Conor.

I didn't get out until 7pm last night, but managed to fit in a 93km spin (Clonsilla-Dundrum-Enniskerry-Sally Gap-Saggart-Clonsilla).

Was very beautiful up there with the sun setting over the mountains - perfect temps, no wind - the first time I've seen Sally Gap looking good.

    That's me done until Sunday.

ok, maybe one last hilly spin tomorrow night

Out late yesterday afternoon for a spin towards the Naul, Bellewstown and was intending to head back then, but I was enjoying it so much I turned towards Duleek, then Donore, Drogheda and headed off down the coast road for home.

Coming into Laytown a couple of not-so-little b0llixes squirted coke at me! Stopped at a shop and got some water to wash it off, but it was still quite tacky!! So I had a 99 to cheer myself up!!

Had to do the last few kilometres with legs that were still sticky!!

Made up for it by extending my commute to work today to 43km with the addition of a couple of laps of the Park!!

I may be on for a short hilly one Wed night - picking up my bike from service in Tallaght, thinking of Bohernabreena, Brittas, Saggart, home.

Yeah, it was Mamma Mia.. The plot is fairly ropey but I don't think anyone was complaining sitting out in the sun.

I've no boards jersey. Come the next order, I shall.

Thanks Raam, I had decided to give the 200 a lash - until I saw the weather discussion on the WW Thread ! Still, it's worth a go. I'm glad my new Rain Jacket finally arrived ths morning ! Woolly tights, Neoprene overshoes etc etc ...
Went for a little hilly spin over Ballyedmonduff Rd and Devils Elbow tonight - Didn't seem as bad as it did on Saturday - a lot cooler, and at my own pace probably helped... or maybe I'm getting a bit fitter !!
