IMO, you get what you pay for in terms of glasses, so I'd say go for Oakley's all the time -Radar are my favourite atm and what I use myself. Worth every penny

I use these if you're looking for a cheap option. Be warned though - they have a jacket sale on, so you might spend more than you planned...

    +1 on the Oakley Radars.

Aside from the UV damage, my refusal to wear sunglasses resulted in a flying bug hitting me square in the eyeball coming down from Djouce. Was going fairly handy at the time and the squinting through tears forced me to a halt.

everyone says the oakleys are the business, to be honest to me they look kind of cheap but the price is anything but, are they really worth that cash?

over 100 for a pair of glasses seems excessive,,,,

Frankly I think that anything worn by the pros has to be somewhat decent. I have (knicked from my bro) a pair of adidas sunglasses I think he got for 50 quid. The frames are cheap plastic and refuse to stay in place when I cycle.

You can get cheaper than Oakleys for sure. DHB from wiggle and I think the PBK (probikekit) own-brand glasses are meant to be good and I believe come with interchangeable lenses for different lighting conditions.

When you consider how important your eyes are, paying a bit more for proper polaroid lenses and decent frames is worth it.

must say i have yet to come across a pair of glasses as good as my oakleys. i've skiied with them (including compulsory wipe out) run witht them cycled with them, all the while they sit right on you with out a budge. in my opinion definitely worth the price

I picked up my Oakley Flak Jackets on Ebay for €60. I find them really good. Have a pair of Minutes but on the bike the Flak Jackets give more visibility out of the side of your eyes. The lenses are changeable which is useful too.

The Radars are more poular on the bike but they are huge so if you face is not so big they don't look good.

Most/all close fitting shades will fog up when you stop if you are sweating heavily. Once you are moving the air flow will keep them clear

I use Oakleys for off-bike posing, and cheap glasses with interchangeable lenses on the bike.

I am, however, the last person to suggest avoid unnecessary cycling spending.

Well I have to admit my bias straight off as I'm selling a few pairs of these :D

But in all honesty they are perfect for cycling - have a look at the specifications in the linked .pdf docs - which includes anti-scratch, anti-fog coatings, Rubberised non-slip bridges - impact protection rated to 45 m/s, UV protection and optically correct lenses to guarantee zero eye strain - and the price is right @ €30

I also have a few pairs of the Axis graduated lense models - they are very lightly tinted at the top graduating to almost clear at the bottom - perfect for day to day cycling use where you want to protect your eyes from wind, insects, stones etc.

    - Also the Axis (second pic) has adjustable arms (up/down directions) so that you can situate the glasses to suit your activity; perfect for cycling where you often have your head down while looking ahead etc.

IMO the most important thing about cycling glasses is that the lenses go high up your face. You want to be able to almost look through your eyebrows without the view being obstructed by the frame.

I've two pairs of Glasses that I consistently use

1 A Set of Animal glasses I got in a surf shop in Tramore
2 A set of Addidas Evil Eye which cost me 150 notes.

Can't recommend the Evil Eye's enough..

I've used Oakley M-Frames for quite a few years now. You get to choose the shape of lense, the shade of lense, and the coating on the lense (standard or iridium). Mine are fitted with standard lenses. The fit is excellent, and their optics are considered to be amongst the best available. However, my lenses often do fog up badly when I am stationary - this is mostly an issue when commuting and stopping at traffic lights for minutes at a time along the way but it is very annoying when it happens and it can seriously impair visibility too for the first 30 seconds or so until they clear after you start moving again.

Perhaps the iridium lenses are less prone to fogging (I've never tried them), but they are significantly more expensive too. Despite the very comfortable and secure fit, given their price I can't recommend the M-Frames with standard lenses for any cycling where you expect to be stopped along the way.

Yes, most definitely.. the quality of the lenses is second to none, and a useful feature they have is the hydrophobic coating that helps stop rain building up on the lenses (ie, they are fully useable in heavy rain without excessive misting/fogging. You can also get interchangeable lenses so you have a range, and most importantly, they are very comfortable, which coupled with not slipping all over the place, is very important!

You can also get the lenses with vents built in that pretty much eliminate any fogging

Yeah, I've considered those before, but the vents are only available on a small number of the lenses (iridium only, and even then with only a few of the shades). The venting also adds an extra cost, but at this stage I might just go ahead and buy a set to give them a try.

I'd have to say that despite the fogging problem, bad as it can be, I've never really been tempted to replace my M-Frames simply because they are so comfortable to wear, and I've had them so long now that they have proved to be reasonable value for money when averaged out across the years. Having invested in them in the first place, it is worth my while spending some more to end up with lenses that do not cause such problems, but if I was looking to buy a set of glasses today the full cost of a set of M-Frames with iridium lenses would make me look at cheaper alternatives with a similar fit.

I got a pair of these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/dhb_Triple_Lens_Sunglasses/5360021749/ recently and have found them pretty good. Not bad price wise.
