Was in the Temple last night and was delighted to see that ladies were free in before 12. The drinks were all at €3.00 each. A vodka and Red Bull cost €4.50.
Taking into account that herself was free in and the drinks were cheap I cant complain.
The only problem is that the place was only 1/4 full. In these times I would have thought that everyone, not only me, woud be looking out for the bargains....maybe its just me then on a small budget...hehehe
Anyways, just thought that it would useful information for those of us looking for a cheap night out.
The Med is one of the dearest pubs in the town and still its always packed....why?????
Saints and Sinners is back open too....not a bad place...nice decor..

I was in 'The Temple' for the first time the other night :o, I have to say my impression of it was slightly tarnished by the amount of 'boyo's' that were there and an incident where some guy was trying to fight, took a dive towards a guy (fists in 'fight' mode) and knocked over my table and all the drinks on it

The Temple is a kip, and sexist too apparently. You can't discriminate, positively or negatively, between the sexes anymore.

Speaking of, and Carlow in general. I haven' seen any doormen in Carlow that comply with the requirements of the Private Security Services Act

The act refers to "doormen (licensed premises)"

out of interest how are they not complying? was in kildare last week and pints of bud went down very well(and fast) at €3.80, not been out lately in carlow because of the attitude in pubs of fear and also the cost in carlow.

Section 30 of the above Act.

An individual who is a member of a prescribed category of licensees shall, when providing a security service, wear an identity badge.

I have yet to see a Door Supervisor in Carlow wearing one - not a representative view of course, I've not been in every pub in Carlow, but I'm going to die trying! ;)

i think it is all part of the thuggish appearance of the doormen that they can kick you out and beat you up if necessary and you will not be able to nane them or it will be too much trouble to identify them later as many establishments have an awful problem with losing security footage on the day of court hearings.

I have read with interest all of the above and went asking questions to pals of mine who frequent the Temple.
I imagine that you were in The Temple on Wed night CroppyBoy?
I was informed that this was the night that Man U fans gathere in their numbers drowning their sorrows...hehehe ( Sorry but I was delighted to see them loose)
Anyway, that night was one of the worst nights in the Temple for fighting and even at that it wasent that bad.
I think a few undesireables got in, as far as I am informed.
I go there a lot and to be honest I have NEVER seen a row. Seen people being escorted out for other types of bad behaviour...like getting too "friendly" with female patrons etc etc
As for not wearing their ID badges.....I can only guess that their badges are kept in their pockets just in case they are lost during any "event". I believe they are not cheap to replace.

There are 2 types of ID, which must be worn whie employed as a Door Supervisor.

One, which is an Identity Card, which proves them to be licenced by the Private Security Authority. This is not to be publically displayed, but must be produced when requested by a member of an Garda Siochana. (Section 29, Private Security Services Act) The fine if you don't have one is €2,000.

Secondly, is the Identity Badge to which I referred earlier. It must be clearly visible, and be a specific size etc. Fine on conviction for not having one, or not displaying it is €2,000.

    The badges don't cost €2,000.

You are no doubt right Testicle.
The commencement of this thread relates to the cost factor involved in going out to a club and I cant understand why the other pubs and clubs in the town dont follow the Temple and reduce the cost of their admission and their drinks.
Maybe its about time that the people of Carlow voted with their feet so to say.
I know that in the future I will be going to the Temple where the drink and admission is cheaper that the others.

I enquired about the badges. You are correct in saying that all security personnel must have on their possession their PSA badge.
The ID badge is NOT in force yet and the PSA say that they will be informing all members of this requirement when they decide on the format for each ID badge that must be worn where visible. Each employer must then prepare their own ID badge taking into account the details given by the PSA.

So at this moment in time security need NOT have ID badges.

Why does every door-person in Dublin and the other cities wear them so? You don't selectively bring in some sections of an Act of the Oireachtas and not others.
