I am thinking of installing another dish on the side of my house. My first one is on the chimney!

i have a question though! Is there any way to aviod the staining associated with the bracket. ie after about 5 -6 years the bracket rust seems to stain the side of the house.

Obv I can paint it but is there a more permanent solution. ie plastic coat the bracket before I put it up!

Yes I know this is extreame but my side walls have lovely pebble dash and I am not to fond of jumping around on my slates to fit it to the chimney again!

Fit a proper hot- dipped galvanized dish bracket, instead of the usual sky rubbish.
While you are at it a Triax Td64 instead of a sky dish.
Cost you a bit more but last many times longer.

+1. I fully agree with this.

Thanks folks 2 questions onto this!

    1. How do I know I am getting a hot dipped gal bracket and how long should it last!

    2. I take it a Triax TD64 is a dish and how much does it cost!

A hot dip galvanised bracket will have a coating of zinc which is fairly easy to distinguish from silver paint.

Wrapping a bracket with Denso tape will protect it for many years. Available from most plumbers merchants. http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/denso_tape.htm

The Triax TD78 is £34.95 + VAT from Satcure so I guess the TD64 will be substantially less (but they don't seem to stock it).

Hi Joey, I got my brackets from Freesat.ie who are based in Fairview in Dublin. They were €49 and are fully galvanised. Make sure the coachscrews you use for the brackets are galvanised as well as these would be the first to show rust stains otherwise.

I got a Triax 80cm dish from Satellite.ie for around the €55 mark. Better to buy a bigger dish as it'll help improve signal strength and quality.

Even if you only put the "Denso" between the wall and the bracket, it will help. Also be sure to smother all bolt threads (including wall-fixing bolts) with silicone grease. To save money, you could give an ordinary bracket several coats of oil-based paint - brick-coloured if desired.
