Mods feel free to move if this isn't the right forum.

The problem arose (I think) a few days ago when I copied a pic to a word doc and I was trying to save it in a different format from the word doc but I have no idea what I ticked or changed (not too technically minded I'm afraid). What happens now is when I click to open some existing word documents they are opening with MS Office Picture manager and saved images are displayed instead of the saved text.

On other occasions instead of an image/pic I get this message
    Other files exist.

The selected locations do contain pictures to preview, but other files exist.
To view these files, on the View menu click show pictures only.

Can anyone here offer any help or advice please as to how to correct this and will I have lost any data/text contained in the word docs?

I could do a system restore but I dont know if this covers this or not and in any event I just installed a wireless printer/copier/fax which took some considerable time and Id prefer not to repaeat that process again.

    Thanks in advance

Right-click on any .doc file and select 'Open With' . Select Microsoft Word in the dialogue box that opens and tick the box for 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' . Click OK and that should see you sorted .

Assuming you are using Windows XP you can re-associate the .doc file type with Microsoft Office Word by doing the following :
open windows explorer, "my computer" then click on "tools", then "folder options", then click on "file types" scroll down the list until you find "doc" click on it and you will then see what program windows has associated this file type with.
If it is not Microsoft Office Word then click the change button and then select Microsoft Office Word and make sure that always use the selected program to this kind of file is ticked, then click ok, you can use this method to change the default program for any file type.

    Hope this helps
