Importing Car from UK without V5 doc

    Hi ,

Looking at purchasing a "CAT D stolen & recovered " car from UK. The salvage company do not have the V5 document claiming that as it was an insurance write off (not mechanically ..) I will need to apply to the DVLA for a replacement V5 certficate. All the seller will issue me with is a receipt of payment.
Note the company appears reputable and specialises in CAT C & D sales and assures me this is standard practice.

Has anyone done this before- any problems with VRT process ?
    All advise appreciated

    Thanks !

If you take the car outside the country you cant apply for a v5 you have to apply for a Certificate of export which takes a month to go through. You need the v5 or the cert t reg it here.
I know because i had to do it because i didn't have the full v5, the guy had lost half of it.

It should only take them a few days for a replacement V5 document which they should already have in there possession to be fair, i mean who actually owns the car now?

Have you run a HPI check for the car to make sure it's not stolen?
To be honest something sounds really dodgey about this.
Was it stolen and crashed then repaired then kept by the company? or is it that it was stolen then replaced by insurance then recovered?
If so then i'd imagine the insurance company is then the owner and perhaps these guys are agents for the insurance company.
AFAIK if the HPI check says it's a stolen car then it's time for ou to contact the authoritys over there and find out who the real owner is oh and walk away!

What's the name of the company and where did you find the car?

You can get a certificate of permanent export from the DVLA in swansea and this will do for to VRT the car in Ireland. Alternatively I think you can also get one in a UK motor tax office or even the UK post office.

Thanks for the info . For ref this is the link to the car and seller on ebay:
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320375010979&_trksid=p2759.l1259

I began to run the HPI check and the reg number came back as belonging to a Merc E280 CDI.... Maybe legit reason for this if its a personal reg number that the previous owner transferred??

Anyway with the auction ending in a day - £600 shipping costs and two many unanswered questions I'll think i'll pass on this.

Thread highjack.... Im bringing an old honda 50 from uk. No V5 document (Common enough on these ld bikes). Can I just fill out the permanent export form with my name and irish address and get the cert of export that way?
