Samsung LCD TV LE32B450

I had been looking for a pair of tv's for my house. Came across this TV, and after much googling, decided that this would be the one for me. Looking for a good tv with a good name. I also have the previous model (LE32A456) so was pretty sure I'd be happy with it.

Locally, available for 459 in Soundstore, Harvey Norman, Dixons, Pc World. All at the exact same price. And no one would budge, even if I was buying two of them. Sure they'd take money off stands, or offer cables etc. Not what I wanted.

Online offers were pixmania (we all know they have poor customer service - didn't want to go down that route)

Richersounds had it for a little cheaper, but would only sell it in the shop, no delivery.

Finally checked Sams your man. £339.90 + £30 delivery. All in for the two tv's with shipping was €812, and it was delivered the next morning to Shannon from the North. Just thought that as locally I would have had to pay €918, that was a fairly good deal.

I did also try the local tv place, but they didn't do Samsung's.

Bought a fridge in soundstore, so it's not like I don't want to shop locally, but I won't pay over the odds!

Well I went into Harvey Normans in Swords today cos of the earlier post referring to the €399 price, and they had them out on the floor for €499.

I bumped into another boardie there, as we were both lookin for a bargain I guess. ;)

I went up to one of the sales guys and asked him the story on the price, mentioned someone had posted a bargain alert about it, and also mentioned the Power City €429 price. He was a little surprised, mumbled something about a few at the €399 price a few weeks back, and then checked his system, and said, he could so me one at that price. :D

Now, I have an old personal gripe with HN's  so decided to pop up to DID who have this set listed at €459, told them about the HN price, and asked him if he could match it, and we could do a deal. The sales guy did not seem sure, and said HN were listing it at €499, so I had to fill him in on the story again........ Anyway after a trip to his manager he came back, and said he could do the €399 price. :D

So happy days, made the purchase, and have it safely stored for an upcoming room revamp in the next few weeks.

I think at this price point we are finally starting to see the gap closing with the UK market, especially with some deals, and haggling which is good news. Unfortunately at the medium-higher end there is still great savings to be made up north or from the UK.

Was down with my daughter buying a washing machine when I saw 6 of them on the floor at €399 in Harvey Normans in Little Island Cork just inside the Electrical Dept. They also had one working where the rest of the TVs were on display. It looked fine. Salesman said they were origanly €549 but for the weekend only €399. Came home to check out the No. Might get one tomorrow even though | bought the LG 3000 a few weeks back for €399 also (mpeg2)

:(Hi went back to Harvey Norman Little Island Cork yesterday evening(Sun) and bought the LE32B45O for €399. Very DISAPPOINTED . Put the stand on and plugged in the antenna and the power. WEAK OR NO PICTURE appeared on the screen after I had selected the language. Took it out and connected the Satellite box no problem all the English channels but no RTE's Took out the antenna and brought in a LG3000 into the room pluged in the aerial : perfect picture. So I have come to the conclusion that the entry for the antenna is faulty. Going back on Tuesday. Will they replace it straight away or will I have to wait for a repair. What are my rights

Immediate replacement from stock. Accept nothing less. I know with P.C, you have 28days during which time you will be issued with a replacement there and then. After that period, it is in the hands of the approved repair center.

Statutory rights are repair, replace, refund in that order you have no legal right to demand a replacement, however they may well replace it on the basis of good customer service but are perfectly entitled to offer arrange a repair.

EVEN THOUGH IT NEVER WORKED???. I thought that the item should be fit for the purpose for which it was bought.

You should check the spec of the television.

Some of the televisions are UHF only, and they are not capable of recieving the frequency band of the irish channels.

You get this sometimes with televisions which are built for the UK market.

A work mate recently got a television in Currys that was not capable of recieving irish analogue terestial signals as it did not have the correct tuners.

You could check the physical interface by connecting the co-ax on the sky box into the aerial socket. I think you might have to turn on the output in the sky box.

If you can recieve it there is no physical problem with the TV. - It does not have the correct tuners.

Also check that you have the correct country selected.

If you have it set for UK it will not scan the correct channels.

This is not correct - if a product is not fit for purpose you have the choice of repair, replacement or refund - it is not up to the store. It is in fact illegal for any store to put up signs saying that they only do repairs and will not provide refunds.

Even if it is ok but is not capable of recieving irish analogue terestial signals (and you were not informed) then it is reasonable to say the product is not fit for purpose in the ROI so a refund is your right.

If there is nothing wrong with the product then you have no legal right to a refund or exchange - it is up to the store.

You are confusing two issues here, I was referring to a defective product and not one which is unfit for purpose.

The retailer is perfectly within it's rights to offer a repair first, if that is not satisfactory it can then offer to replace, if this is still unsatisfactory it is only then obliged to offer a refund. You are perfectly correct in stating that it is illegal for a store to state that they do not provide refunds.

Not wishing to drag the thread further off topic I would suggest that the effected poster call the National Consumer Agency Helpline on Lo-call 1890 432 432 or (01) 402 5555 for clarification or check out the Consumer issues forum.

Hi Sorry for all the confusion but I have the set working now. Sent Samsung an email and got a 10 step list of things to do. Some of them were OK and appeared on screen but others didn't but got there in the end. You do have to choose U.K as your country and don't enter on Plug in and Play I learned something about my rights anyway. Sorry again.

Apparently this TV is £349 in Currys sale in the UK this weekend. Can anyone confirm this? or know if they'll do it for a similar Irish price?

It was on sale in Harvey normans for €399 over the June weekend in SOUTH OFIreland I bought one myself.. It is hard enough to install it.not as easy as ther LG 3000 which I purchased a few weeks ago. Enter The country as UK> and do not enter on plug and play. The Samsung site will give you instructions if you find it difficult as they gave me a 10 point instruction to get it started. When I started I got the message WEAK signal or no signal but expect a snowy screen and dont be put off
