Progress of a dental graft?

How do you know if a dental bone graft is progressing properly?

Once the gum is healed and the stitches are out, how long does it take for the bone itself to harden up? Does it fill out? Does it feel painful? Tender? Anything at all?

How long does it take for the bone graft to set properly?

Is there any way of knowing if something is not right, without having to go and get x-rays etc?

I presume you had a dental bone graft for implants (they are used for other reasons too).

usually you only know that it is taken is when you lift the gum off the bone and drill, if it is all mush, then it is no good. if it is hard then all is well.

also if the graft became infected you may see signs of infection (pus draining etc)

x-rays in itself may not show that the graft has been successful.

how long it take it takes depends on the graft used etc., most people leave 3-9 months, but your dentist may have his own preferences.

Yes, planning to get a dental implant and crown when it's hard enough to drill. Just paranoid about my bones, and wondering if it's possibly my body is absorbing the grafted bone for general use, instead of letting it settle and harden.

Gum looks good, pink and healthy, no pain, just doesn't seem dense. like the other side.
