Anyone out there interested in a profit sharing farming venture? have land, about 25 acres and am interested in starting a herd of cattle. breeds that I am considering are Aberdeen Angus or British White.

No buildings on the land, but log cabin or mobile home can be provided. person would have to mind/tend the cattle. it is not necessary to live on site and might suit someone living in the area son/daughter of farmer.

    Farming experience is essential.

    W Waterford area.

Profits, if any to be shared on a 50/50 basis.

partnership income would include any State/EU schemes that could be obtained, such as REPS/ Disadvantaged Area Aid and single Premium.

Please note interest on BB and PM for more details or to discuss in detail

I'd be inclined to agree- its not worth your while even considering this with 25 acres. What you are proposing is a highly specialised breeding programme- on a quite literally, green field site. Acerage aside- you've no slatted buildings or any other necessary infrastructure in place. You really need to research this a lot better......

    Post was slightly unclear.

Not thinking of breeding pedigree herd, just buying young cattle, letting them eat grass then selling them either in mart or factory.

And what facilities do you have? I randomly mentioned slatted housing- its the tip of a mountain...... Also- the current prices for beef is considerably below production costs- you are fully aware of this? As a new drystock farmer- just which EU grants and subsidies do you imagine you will qualify for?

Have you any experience in this sort of enterprise? Why do you imagine a random stranger would be interested in investing in such an inherently risky endeavour? Also- what I said about 25 acres stands- its a very small holding- particularly for what you're proposing........

Crikey thats a gamble for sure...!
What farming experience do you have? Have you a business plan put together? How much of start up investment are you expecting from a potential 'investor'? What sort of land is it? what condition is it in? Is it enough to hold stock for 6 months? Have you a herd number? Realistically, you would want to be making quite a substantial profit so as to be happy to split it 50/50. Will you split the workload 50/50?

No offence OP, but this sounds like your a city boy who has inherited some land, and are of the opinion that farmers are loaded and by having a few animals you'll rake in a load of EU money, make more on selling the animals and not get your hands dirty at all. Instead, some poor schmuk will live in a mobile home and look after things for ya for half the money.

    Its madness

1 person would not make a sufficient profit from 25 acres to make it feasible never mind splitting it 50 50

    Roosterman, you are not correct.

I am working the land part time at present. I was looking for someone to help, but as there is not much money in farming, the profit would be shared on an equal basis.

At present, the place brings in a decent enough income. I have vegetables, fruit, hedging plants, chickens and ducks as well as a few jacobs sheep.

Life is getting harder as i age though and few people, as can be seen from this BB are interested in hard physical labour.

I thought that it would be easier to sit back and just watch cattle on the land.

Anyway, a neighbour has expresed interest and once deal is done over a few pints, we're off.

    Thanks to all.

Would you qualify as a retired farmer and be able to lease the land out tax free?
