Panasonic G10 Plasma or Samsung 7020 LED

    Hi all,

I have narrowed my search down to either of these TV's, the Samsung is the more expensive of the two and has a 2" smaller screen (40") but is cheaper to run. It's 75w vs 350w on the Panasonic plasma.
Prices around Dublin are €1279 for the Panasonic and €1599 for the Samsung.

Is it worth the extra outlay for the Samsung? Is there much of a difference in picture quality?

I'll be using it as a main TV with NTL and blueray through a PS3, not a huge gamer, possibly also playing hd movies through a media box.

    Thanks,
    Neil.

The Panasonic is better than the Samsung, so it isn't a case of 'is it worth it' more like a 'why would you' situation.

The Panasonic will have a better picture quality, the extra power consumption is expressed as heat. Since it is likely you will be spending money to heat your home for most of the year anyway, the extra money spent on power is not wasted and might be recouped if the heating is controlled by a thermostat.

You should shop around, I think I saw a very recent thread where someone got a 50" Panasonic plasma with freesat for €1300

    Thanks for the reply :)

If the panasonic is the better tv and it's cheaper then as you say it's a no brainer  I'll have enough to buy a nice 26" lcd for the kitchen with the savings.
