Problem converting VOB to AVI

    Please help!!

I'm having a problem backing up my DVD collection to my hard drive. I'm using clone DVD which copies my DVD to my system but it saves them as VOB files, a lot of them. I've since discovered that only 3 of these VOB files contain the actual movie I'm trying to copy which is fine until I try converting them into 1 handy AVI file using an AVS converter. My problem is that these get converted into 3 seperate AVI files (allbeit in one folder).

Can someone please tell me how do I convert 3 VOB files (all the same movie) into one AVI file?

And incase anyone is wondering, yes they are my own personal DVD's which I'm trying to rescue from the hands of my 3 years old daughter by preserving them onto PC.

boilsoft video joiner will sort out that prob
if you wish to burn the movies to dvd in future you wil have to convert back to vob files and the other files that are in the dvd folder will be needed(ifo ect)

    Cheers mp22, I'll try that.

Could you tell me at what stage in the process do I need to use this software? Before I convert to AVI, during or after?

Would loading the ifo file not sort that problem? Should work fine, or else joining is an option

At the moment my system does not recognise ifo files, which I think is half my problem. What do I need to get my system to recognise these types of files?

Handbrake will do the job fine. Point it at the video_ts folder, and away you go. Has plenty of options and is easy to use.

Also, i'd recommend DVDFab for ripping instead of cloneDVD. The free version does everything you need.

You certainly don't need to be going joining up files, that's rubbish, any good transcoder will work fine with the raw audio_ts/video_ts folders.

You open the ifo file from within the program, its normal your system wont recognise that file extension, but these programs should

agreed! HandBrake is all you need, plus its free as for burning back as playable dvds id recommend DVDFlick, its also free and includes options for making menus etc, plus you can put 2 or 3 films on the one disc too.........
