    Hehe, me too.
It's the fairest stock site I could find and it's Irish, doing my little bit for the country in these hard times:)

Have you made any sales through it? How does their system work?

I haven't as yet but I'm not on there that long either. I've been told that there has been some sales from the site. It's 40euro per picture split 50/50 with the site, you can collect through paypal.

www.sxc.hu has tonnes you can download for absolutely nothing, and some are really quite usable - I've used pics from here in brochures / adverts for work.

Would you sell much using these sites? How much a week on average for example?

I use sxc.hu myself and couldn't recommend them enough. Vast choice of free images.

€40 for an image is a bit steep to be perfectly honest.

Not that much to be honest as I do not spend enough time on it, but it's still better than nothing.
Friend of mine is only using istock and makes around 2K a month.

    Interesting topic!
People have posted here that both buy and submit photos!
Its interesting to see both perspectives!

If I need to buy photos I use dreamstime, they have got a good website with reasonable prices and most important, great pictures!

In the majority you will have to pay for an excellent photo! The not so good ones are free. Thats with all the stock sites!

Sxc is a nice site for free pictures!

Dreams time are pleasant to work with, I have only bought photos from them, not sold, I must start selling over the Summer! The part that puts me off selling my photos on dreamstime is that you must reach 100US dollars before you can withdraw the money. Its a risk, if you don't make over 100 Us Dollars you don't get paid!

I would love to find more info and see some of his shots! Thats a nice bit of money!
How many shots would he upload a month? What size? What Quality? What are the pictures of? ect

Do you have a link so I could see the images?
    :)

Here is the link to his profile:
    http://www.istockphoto.com/zemdega

    956 photos since March 2007.
istockphoto_6142173-after-rain.jpg this is one of his photos (sold 3665 times) - and it is printed on Greyhound trucks that drive around in Dublin.

They are all fantastic photos! The one that sold the most is top class!
However I do not see why Greyhounds trucks are using it.

Oh, I think I am mistaken. It looks like a recycling company. I thought it would have been something to do with the dog breed! I see now!
Tell your friend I wished him well and I hope he sells thousands more!

wow, that's something. I'm sure if you had to support a family with your work as a photographer you'd have a different opinion.

No need to get strappy. Just voicing my opinion. :)

    no strapness, honest...:)

My point more or less is the value of an image will depend what side of the fence you're siting on, and I figured in a photography forum....

just a point for discussion maybe.

http://www.morguefile.com is one of the best free stock photo sites out there. It has the easiest licensing/ terms of use anywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,218 ✭✭✭padocon

That is good for designers! But not photographers!:D

There are lessons and most photographers use the morguefile as a place to post files that don't sell or were rejected to get some miles out of them.

I just registered on Crestock website and I think it's pretty amazing.

Unlike any other stock site you don't have to wait days to get your images approved, this is done within minutes. You also do not need to select any categories, which is a great time saver.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,218 ✭✭✭padocon

The one you have mentioned is pretty new, i'm guessing less sales.

I believe it's live since 2007, but I agree, sales might not be as high as on other sites However as it's the easiest/fastest upload system I have seen, I don't see any harm in giving it a try.
