    Hi

I'm urgently looking for a Mazda 6 1.8 03 engine as car failed the NCT and I need to get a new one quick. I've been looking in Ireland and UK with no luck. Has anyone any ideas where I could try? Thanks

The big end bearings are gone and it's also burning oil so there could be other problems there as well. So I think a reconditioned engine would be cheaper than replacing parts.

Did you try www.partfinders.ie. Always found them pretty good

for getting parts, must be serious if your replacing the engine.

Couple there so you might be in luck.

Note a secondhand engine is not the same thing as a reconditioned engine ... not by a long shot.

"Repairing" your own engine = reconditioning the engine, should be as good as new if done right, but will cost more than a secondhand engine. An engine from a breakers yard is not a reconditioned engine.

Thanks for replies, have quote for reconditioned jap engine for 1900 euro (supply and fit) but thats half value of car so was trying to find 2nd hand one as thats the route ive been advised to go down by two mechanics. they feel with all the labour involved in stripping engine and not knowing what other problems they might find plus mazda parts are seemingly very expensive it would not be worth repairing my own engine.
thanks again for help and am open to any other suggestions.

I assume your engine is petrol. if you find one in a breakers yard, which may be difficult as they give a bit of bother and are scarce, it may be as bad as your own. the cost of putting it in to find its no good is a disaster.

sell your car for parts, perhaps get 800 euro for it and buy another at the price you valued your own, 4,000

best option, go north buy a whole running car , that way you can check the drive it home and swop engine, sell off other bits or keep for spares.

i am advised that some mondeo engines are the same as yours. there is a way to check by serial numbers. come back to me by pm if you need to find out

Mazda 6 doesn't share any engines with the Ford Mondeo afaik.

Thanks everyone, I have managed to track one down in the UK. I should have it on Wednesday. It works out at €953 so not too bad, it could have been a lot worse. Thanks again for the help.
