    Hey

so I got a new PC, and my bro set it up and thats grand.

It's got windows vista on it, which is new to me, and I'm just getting used to the new word layouts etc...

He put a few 'gadgets' on the side of my desktop for me. A clock, the date and the weather forecast. Yeah, cool, I know.

Well, the thing is now they are missing. Are they hiding somewhere? Do I have to go somewhere to locate them, or should they still be on the desktop? Have they been deleted?

How do I get them back is my main question really,

I have googled but that told me to go to control panel, which I did, but I couldn't find anything.

    cheers
    p

    try this,

hold down the windows key and press R.

this should bring up a run prompt

then type sidebar.exe in the text box and press enter.

this should bring back any of those items....:)

To add to that, right click the sidebar icon in the system tray (Beside the clock), click properties and tick "Start With Windows" to make sure it starts up automaticly each time

    no probs :)

I would also do what yoyo suggested to make sure the sidebar launches every time you turn on the laptop....

a good guess i reckon, the majority of new computers bought today tend to be laptops unless the user is big into gaming as a side note, as a long time vista user i reckon you give the vista sidebar a miss, it really uses up more system resources than its worth... give yahoo widgets a go, less resources, theres a much larger variety of *usefull* widgets and they look a lot better than the vista gadgets, and they dont have to be confined to only the sidebar either, you can put them anywhere on your desktop, it even has a HUD like in OSX

That was my immediate thought on seeing your OP. If you really are into sidebars/widgets etc., Yahoo is the easiest on resources and they have some nice looking widgets which you can move around easily.

Wrong. Its a desktop, not a laptop. I've had too much hassle in the past with laptops, I'm too clumsy for them really.

How do I go about getting yahoo gadgets then?

As simple as googling Yahoo gadgets and going on the Yahoo site and downloading a small program. Then pick away.

Glow ball and Neon guages are nice if you like RAM and CPU Info. They've a couple of nice clock and weather gadgets too, plus a Dalek and Tardis widget that never fails to amuse my son!
