    Hi all,
I have just applied to have a dormant herd number re-activated. I actually don't want the herd number for keeping livestock, it's just to qualify for the farmer premium rate for forestry. But i think i still have to go through the motions of providing facilities such as cattle crushes etc. Does anyone know where i would get minimum sizes for cattle crushes to satisfy the dept. and what the costs would be?

    Thanks

Why not apply to get the dormant herd number changed to a flock number only in your local DVO....put up a simple pen for sheep and will save you alot of money and hassle?

    Thanks Keeperlit,
That's seems to be worth looking into alright. Have the Dept. got specific requirements for sheep pens also.

Excuse my ignorance as i know nothing about sheep farming. If I have to keep sheep for a few months to activate the flock number and to qualify as a farmer in relation to the forestry premium......Are there any restrictions on buying and selling sheep? Like there is with T.B. testing for cattle?

    Thanks
