Recurring Lateral Sore Throat

In early March 2008 I started getting a very bad sore throat, but only on my left side and rather deep/far back, i.e. you cannot see it in a typical examination. Initially it was quite debilitating but since then whenever it comes back it is not nearly as bad as its first carnation.

I went to the doctor on a number of occasions and he eventually sent my for blood tests. These test came back completely negative of all infections etc.

I suppose my question is what could be causing this issue? It happens randomly every few weeks/months. I tries to keep a food.drink diary, but nothing seems to stand out as causing any issue. I just find it unusual that this keeps happening and that it goes away as quickly as it arrives.
