RTÉ change of on-screen logo

Noticed that both RTÉ 1 and 2 now have an "RTÉ" only logo in the upper right hand corner. No more "one" and "two".

Confusing really. What is the logic behind this?

This looks like it only applies for the analog signal. The one and two are still there on digital

Why do they have a logo at all, these days?

I'd say 99% of people's TVs tell them what channel they're on already.

The RTÉ logo is crisp, clear, were legible, so I guess they stay with it.

Interesting that it is only on analogue they have changed, not on digital. It would make more sense to do the opposite.

seems RTE have made a mess of the analog signal.

RTE ONE & RTE TWO logos are on analog but they have been set to widescreen, at the moment I am only getting RTE and the first half part of the "O" of ONE logo.

    is that a transmitter issue?

it was annoying last nite watching champions league, could only see half the score.

Yes, transmission on RTÉ One and Two analogue is currently cropped to 4:3 rather than 14:9 letterbox. Surely this is not a permanent change?! Even the RTÉ News DOG is not 4:3 safe, quelle surprise

RTE is an embarrassment to Ireland.

I know this fella works there, does horse-racing articles.

The clown got sacked from three bookies for betting during work, only RTE would hire him.

His tips are 100% wrong and yet he still does this for a living, at one point getting a taxi to and from work courtesy of the Irish licence payer.

If you think RTÉ are bad you should see sdome of what's on offer on the continent.

Have to add that some of the TV in Australia is pretty poor as well. I said I would never complain about RTE again when i was living in Melbourne

I think RTE are pretty shockingly bad TBH.

Just look at the stuff on the RTE player. It is a great looking player but I looked through everything on it and I can't find a single thing I want to watch on it.

We have no fooking comedy shows on it! Well there is one but I saw it once on TV and thought it was some of the worst crap I'd ever seen on TV.

Unless you want to watch the late late after its been on or the news or prime time then the player is absolutely useless and why is content restricted to last week for viewing?

I think that is what most people would use it for. Andy why is it restricted to one week? Possibly due to rights. The BBCi Player is one week also.

It is their content? Its what the tax payers pay for. They can't say they don't own the rights to the late late show.

I think the most likely reason is they are afraid that bandwidth requirements will be higher than their system can handle.

I want decent content on it and home grown short films that can be watched on demand and use it as an innovative platform with its own purpose instead of a rehash of the same boring content.

Of course people are using it to watch the late late, news or prime time. Its all thats on the bloody thing, how could they use it for anything else?

Might I suggest you actually look at it then. There is much more than that.

Yeah lol if you want to call that television

I'd love to see the actual view count on each of the videos. I imagine most of them are appalling and I imagine there is a reason there is no rating system for the content.

There is a reason why so many in the country have sky dishes or NTL and the RTE player reveals why IMO.

If your issue is content, then it would seem that your problem isn't with the actual Rte player, but rather with Rte itself.

The player is going to show primarily Rte programming, so if you don't like Rte programming in the first place, having the opportunity to watch it replayed probably isn't going to set your world on fire.

Regarding Home-grown short films, Shortscreen is one of the flagship programmes on the player. There are currently 3 home-grown short films to view on the player that would otherwise be unavailable to the public after their initial showing.

The player itself is a good start, but of course there's room for improvement.

Cool didn't know about Shortscreen will have to check it out as I always miss those and some of them are worthwhile.

I know my problem isn't with the player but I think it does show the problem RTE has with content because it gives a nice category breakdown of what is available so you can see what categories are lacking content very easily.

For instance, arts and music currently has two videos available. A lot of chat show and reality content but no real comedy available in Entertainment.

Most of drama are bought shows from other countries.

Religious and Irish Language seems entirely focussed on the Roman Catholic Church and their is only one Irish language video available. Religion section should be more balanced IMO.

I think the service has an extreme lack of comedy content and content for males in the 18-25 age group. If you don't like soaps and your not in the mood for factual content then there is little content on it you can watch. Top Gear is about the only program aimed at my age group I think and I've seen them all on BBC and they are repeated way too much on other channels already.

I'd like to see some original comedy from RTE that was actually good. I don't know why they struggle so much to find it. Some of BBC's best comedy shows in the past 10 years or so have featured Irish comedians. What does RTE have against comedy?
